Why do they have the national anthem playing at their domestic sports games anyway?

Imagine going to the football and being subjected to God Save the Queen for every single league game. :dread:

This always amuses me about UK ice hockey. We get God Save the Queen before every game even though the vast majority of the players aren't British.

Gotta remind Johnny Foreigner who's boss.

There's also that secret clause in the UN charter that says we can reclaim the entire British Empire at will without a shot being fired and they have to be bloody happy about it and not complain.

Peter Crisp wrote:I also love how they say the single payer healthcare system couldn't possibly work in the US because the country is so huge and not realise the NHS is one of the largest employers on earth and is only topped by the Chinese army.

Not quite, according to wikipedia:

United States Department of Defense - 3.2 million

People's Liberation Army - 2.3 million

Walmart - 2.1 million

McDonald's -1.9 million

National Health Service -1.7 million

Still pretty impressive.

So Donny's latest explanation for the failed healthcare bill is that one of the senators was in hospital. Except .... :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp:

Did someone feed him that fake news to calm him down? Did he imagine it? Or was he lying to save some face during the interview?

Scary that any of those explanations could be true, lol.

The largest group of players are Canadian so they can damn well sing God Save the Queen like good children.

Trump on Puerto Rico:
This is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-pu ... 03473.html

He has the best words.

Trump has been criticized for appearing to be less attentive to Puerto Rico than to Texas and Florida following hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The president's first public response to Hurricane Maria came in a series of tweets in which he focused on the island's weak infrastructure and economy five days after the storm hit.

Trump's view of Puerto Rico can be summarized thusly: "It's a shithole populated by the once and future maids and gardeners of successful Americans, that owes us a ton of money."

Trump's Health Secretary just quit.

US Health Secretary Tom Price has resigned over the use of expensive private planes for official business.

He previously apologised after making 24 private flights since May at a cost of $300,000 (£223,000) to taxpayers.

Government officials, except those dealing with national security matters, are required to take commercial flights for work related travel.

Isn't that what it cost for one of Trump's jollies?

It just goes to show how feeble our politicians attempts at getting freebies were.
A politician taking first class on a train is a big thing here but in the US a politician taking any train would be seen as laughably frugal first class or not.

The first class thing was caused because the MP in question was only in receipt of a standard ticket.

Fair enough but my point is our politicians weren't anywhere near as greedy as the US politicians and they are supposed to be from a party that despises government spending and say taxation is theft.
