Interesting. When it comes to money laundering, they will likely have pretty strong evidence so I can't see how they can get off the hook for that.

Federal charges have a 99.9% conviction rate.

The conspiracy against the US charges are for 06-17 inclusive and mentions "together with others". Who are the others? No Lost jokes.

But being friends with and/or having information on the President has a 100% pardon rate.

In time Manafort will almost certainly be the bigger story, but for now, the news about Papadopulous is probably the biggest news. It immediately undercuts the talking point that this has nothing to do with the campaign. It is a guilty plea about lying about what he did during the campaign! Most importantly, it suggests he has flipped:

“the Government agrees to bring to the Court’s attention at sentencing the defendant’s efforts to cooperate with the Government, on the condition that your client continues to respond and provide information regarding any and all matters as to which the Government deems relevant

“No, you have to understand, he was an international financial criminal and foreign agent long before we hired him to run the campaign.”

You've gotta feel a little sorry - they must have prepared to throw collusion distractions everywhere and then BOOM Papadopolous has probably been dishing dirt for months

The only problem is (if this goes where it might) Trumpkins won't care/believe it and Trump would rather incite them to Civil War than admit/accept blame/mistakes

The Guardian wrote:George Papadopoulos, the former campaign aide to Donald Trump, pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents working for special counsel Robert Mueller as part of his investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Here are the key takeaways from the “statement of offense”:

Papadopoulos joined the campaign as a foreign policy advisor around March 21, 2016. He met with the professor on or about March 24, 2016 in London.

Papadopoulos initially told investigators that he befriended an unnamed London-based “professor” with “substantial connections” to Russian government officials before he became an adviser to the campaign. Papadopoulos later corrected his story and told investigators that the professor only became interested in him after learning that he worked for the Trump campaign.

In late April – more than a month after Papadopoulos joined the Trump campaign – the “professor” told him that the Russians had “dirt” on then candidate Clinton in the form of “thousands of emails” . He had initially told investigators that those communications occured prior to joining the campaign.

“On or about March 31, 2016,” Papadopoulos attended a national security meeting with Trump and other advisers, at which Papadopoulos stated that he “could help arrange a meeting between then-candidate Trump and President Putin”.

The professor also introduced the Trump adviser to an unnamed female Russian national who Papadopoulos believed was Putin’s niece.

Following the meeting with the professor and female Russian national, Papadopoulos emailed members of the campaign to tell them that he had just met with a “good friend” the professor and they discussed arranging a “meeting between us and the Russian leadership to discuss US-Russia ties under President Trump”. A campaign supervisor replied: “Great work.”

During a meeting in Washington DC, Papadopoulos stated he had connection to arrange a meeting between Trump and Putin.
He then worked with the professor and female Russian national to arrange a meeting between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

Court partially blocks Trump's transgender military ban

A federal court has blocked President Trump in part from changing the military's transgender policy as a case against his ban works its way through court.

A judge in the U.S. district court for D.C. ruled Monday that Trump's directive changing the transgender policy back to what it was before June 2016 and banning new transgender recruits from enlisting cannot be enforced while the case works it way through the court.

However, the judge denied the plaintiff's motion to block the ban on funds for gender reassignment surgery.

Seems like there are multiple angles they could come at Trump with this Russia investigation:

- His business dealings with Russian oligarchs and the potential for money laundering like the guys indicted today, he's had some shady property deals
- His firing of former FBI Director Comey which could be obstruction of justice, especially as the investigation is now bearing fruit
- His awareness of what people around him in his campaign were doing, if they can be shown to have been colluding with Russia
- Anything suspicious in his tax returns and details of any loans he's received, as he doesn't want people to see them and he's been bankrupt several times
- If Russia has something over him in his personal life as the Steele dossier suggests, something which may be leading him to be so pro-Russia/Putin

Interesting times!
