They are not free and they never have been.

They have been told all of their lives that they are the freest nation on the planet and they believe it. But it’s not actually true. strawberry float, they were not even a (pisspoor) democracy until the 1960s.

I had so many, many arguments on the US politics forum about the fact that the US is not a democracy but a republic.
Holding democratic elections doesn't count apparently.

It seems a bit pedantic to argue over whether it is a republic or a democracy.

But it certainly wasn’t a free democracy up until the 1960s, when some members of society were not even allowed to use the front doors of a concert hall and were banned from drinking water from certain drinking fountains. And that’s before we even get into voting…

It’s a piss poor democracy now (as is the UK!) but they really don’t have a very long history of democracy.

It's the way he links "negative" to be "fake". He reaches new levels of delusional snowflake everyday

"Best" democracy out there at the moment? France? One of the Scandinavian countries?

The main objection they had on the US politics forum was that the US shouldn't change with the will of the people via voting as the new people are mostly filthy immigrants brought in by the democrats to get votes to destroy the US. They seem blissfully unaware that every country changes over time it's just what happens but for them being the USA of the founders is everything and anything that goes against that is terrible.

Their America is the real America and no matter how small in number they become the US should always belong to them.

I argued there wasn't such a thing as best as many countries have claim to being best at certain aspects but that was just wishy washy liberal double speak for claiming America isn't the best at everything which obviously it is.

100% not France. Macron is turning out to be the French Thatcher, dismantling public service and the socialism that the republic was founded on. He's doing some really scary stuff, using obscure regulations to ram home laws without parliamentary approval.

I really hope that this is all leading toward an absolutely watertight case against Trump and all his cronies. Even under normal circumstances you would want to avoid any doubt that these people are bent, but that is all the more important in this era where you can seemingly just say FAKE NEWS and get away whatever the strawberry float you want!

My guess is he'll be taken down in a Al Capone kind of way. Only it'll be many, many, many "little" things which get him. And then, down the line, when we've all forgotten about him, they'll quietly release a confirmation of Russian collusion, but it'll be framed in such a way so as not cause disillusion in the system/make the public question those who backed him but are still in power. Or something. I hope to strawberry float.

Novartis official: Michael Cohen was 'promising access' after Trump election
Cohen reached out to the drug giant after the election, a senior Novartis official said

President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, contacted the drug giant Novartis after the 2016 election "promising access" to the new administration, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller later requested information from the company about the offer, a senior official inside Novartis told NBC News on Wednesday.

"He [Cohen] contacted us after the new administration was in place," the official said. "He was promising access to the new administration."

The disclosure came after an attorney representing the adult-film actress who says she had an affair with Trump released a summary of bank transactions that he says shows payments from various companies to a company controlled by Cohen.
