I think the crux of what silva is hammering a screw at is all religions are bad and do atrocious things and in many ways incite hatred and conflict, but is particularly pissed of with Islam, and doing it in a characteristically tactless way like some athiests. imo Karl highlighting atrocities committed by various religious sects highlights a bit of tunnel vision here and it does bother me even if it appears strangely sentimentalist when Islam is attacked like that. Whether or not these bad things are inherently encoded into Islam, that may be true, however I think a pretty equal degree of evil stuff can be read into other religions, even the nihilistic aspects of Buddhism.

I respect his point of view, but not sure how it will work out in terms of palatability. I think that's up to the other people in this discussion first and foremost, however this thread is ultimately about US politics and this reminds me of the odyssey that was the Religion Thread in years a yonder. It's been done. Maybe it's time to do it again, but honestly, I'm not sure it's something worth encouraging as I'm not sure to what practical end it can foster. No censor here.

I have to be honest here, I don't know enough about the Israel-Palestine conflict to fully grasp an opinion on it. I really need to read up on it.

It's one of those things that is so drawn out and so "dualised" with bad gooseberry fool happening so often that it seems to delay opinion on the matter indefinitely. A huge stalemate. I hope for the citizens concerned that they stop killing each other eventually, but it's a pretty clear case for why fundamentalism, and providing Western arms, is not a good mix towards a peace process.

Paul Ryan says that next year Congress will be looking at big cuts to welfare, Medicare and Medicaid. Because that's just what rich people like to do - strawberry float the poor in the ass, every chance they get.

Apparently in their haste to make tax amendments the GOP has accidentally raised taxes for corporations. Whoops!!!

I don't think you understand just how little republicans give a gooseberry fool about the poor.
The mindset they have is that the poor are only poor because they are lazy and stupid and everyone can become rich just by hard work.
They obviously fail to notice parents with 2 or 3 jobs just to send the kids to college (the kids will most likely still end up paying off the debt for decades anyway) or pay for the care of parents with dementia or other debilitating condition.
Those people just need to Get good and get a better job and become rich but they obviously haven't thought of that for some unknown reason.

I'd like to think that the GOP will never recover from a Trump presidency, but the scary thing is that it'll probably only make them stronger. Trump actually sort of reminds me of Terry Crews in Idiocracy at this point.

He is far worse than Terry Crews character. He realised that he was an idiot and ended up letting Luke Wilson fix the problems, made him Vice President and in the end Wilson became President.

I don’t see Trump doing any of that. ;)

He’s basically Biff Tannen in the alternate timeline if Tannen had become President. Although Biff was kinder and far more intelligent.

I'm sure if you look at any picture of Trump you can see that bloody Sports Almanac in his back pocket.

I can see why he did it. He’s hoping that the Palestinians will rush to the peace table and get their half of the place as Trump did say all borders and division is up to Israel and the Palestinians. I don’t think it is going to work like that though.

He did it to deflect attention from his shitty tax bill, and the fact he's a Russian puppet.

Waaaay too much credit given there. He did it because it was a campaign promise designed to appeal to hardcore Christian zealots.
