Rumours are he'll quit before then, has until 1st June to register -

In recent interviews with three dozen people who know the speaker—fellow lawmakers, congressional and administration aides, conservative intellectuals and Republican lobbyists—not a single person believed Ryan will stay in Congress past 2018.

More recently, over closely held conversations with his kitchen cabinet, Ryan’s preference has become clear: He would like to serve through Election Day 2018 and retire ahead of the next Congress. This would give Ryan a final legislative year to chase his second white whale, entitlement reform, while using his unrivaled fundraising prowess to help protect the House majority—all with the benefit of averting an ugly internecine power struggle during election season.

It'll be interesting to see how the Trump supporters try and spin a huge swing against him. If it's of the truly historic measure and Republicans get a real pasting and possibly lose both house and senate then they will have a tough time as Trump is so unprincipled he's likely to just side with the Democrats as they will hold all the power and this will infuriate his base who will then have the tough time of openly defending him while secretly hating him for flip-flopping.

He will probably cite fake polls and try to annull the entire thing.

They'll just blame the other politicians for being bad and not Trump. At least at the midterm, the next general election will be interesting.

Oklahoma bringing back the modern day equivalent of the gas chamber!

Oklahoma plans to resume executions by using nitrogen or another gas to starve an inmate of oxygen because it cannot obtain the drugs needed for lethal injections, state officials said on Wednesday.

Corrections Director Joe Allbaugh said his agency is working to develop a protocol for the new method — which is certain to spark fierce legal challenges.

"The victims of death row inmates have waited long enough for justice," Allbaugh said in a joint statement with Attorney General Mike Hunter.

"Trying to find alternative compounds or someone with prescribing authority willing to provide us with the drugs is becoming exceedingly difficult, and we will not attempt to obtain the drugs illegally."

Oklahoma is the latest state to consider alternative execution methods because pharmaceutical companies will no longer sell their drugs to prisons for lethal injections.

The state hasn't carried out an execution in more than three years, and its last two lethal injections were bungled.

In 2014, Clayton Lockett regained consciousness during his execution because the IV wasn't properly placed. Although Lockett ultimately died, the mistake sparked outrage and prompted the White House to order a nationwide review of procedures.

The following year, Oklahoma successfully executed Charles Warner but used potassium acetate instead of potassium chloride as the third drug. "My body is on fire," Warner said after the injection began, according to witnesses.

Months later, the state had to cancel the execution of Richard Glossip because it.

Death by breathing inert gas is one of the most painless ways to die, which is why it's so dangerous if you're in an environment where it could happen by accident. I can only imagine Oklahoma's death row inmates are over the moon.

Trump has finally decided to impose the sanctions on Russians, interesting timing considering the US is now supporting the UK in blaming Russia for the attack here - maybe he's at last realised Putin is not his friend:

Trump will not see the Russians as his enemy until or unless they permanently cut him off from his Russkie cash flow, at the very least. As long as he suckles on their money teat, he'll be their friend.

Interesting stuff about the US energy grid though. They've been mapping it out for years on the ground with spies masquerading as diplomats.

Former deputy assistant secretary of defense with responsibility for Russia thinks the new sanctions amount to smoke and mirrors:

Mueller Subpoenas Trump Organization, Demanding Documents About Russia

The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, has subpoenaed the Trump Organization to turn over documents, including some related to Russia, according to two people briefed on the matter. The order is the first known time that the special counsel demanded documents directly related to President Trump’s businesses, bringing the investigation closer to the president.

The breadth of the subpoena was not clear, nor was it clear why Mr. Mueller issued it instead of simply asking for the documents from the company, an umbrella organization that oversees Mr. Trump’s business ventures. In the subpoena, delivered in recent weeks, Mr. Mueller ordered the Trump Organization to hand over all documents related to Russia and other topics he is investigating, the people said.

The subpoena is the latest indication that the investigation, which Mr. Trump’s lawyers once regularly assured him would be completed by now, will drag on for at least several more months. Word of the subpoena comes as Mr. Mueller appears to be broadening his investigation to examine the role foreign money may have played in funding Mr. Trump’s political activities. In recent weeks, Mr. Mueller’s investigators have questioned witnesses, including an adviser to the United Arab Emirates, about the flow of Emirati money into the United States.

Neither White House officials nor Alan S. Futerfas, a lawyer representing the Trump Organization, immediately responded to requests for comment. The Trump Organization has typically complied with requests from congressional investigators for documents for their own inquiries into Russian election interference, and there was no indication the company planned to fight Mr. Mueller about it.
