Pence becoming president could be devastating for hopes for a Democratic win in 2020. He's quieter, and a much more traditional Republican (albeit hard-line nasty), who would probably prove much more effective in advancing the GOP agenda in Congress and the Senate.

His becoming president would raise all the issues of his policies as Indiana governor, but by not being Trump, he could well win in 2020 if the scandals of his current boss don't sink him too.

Pence didn't do well in Indiana, which is a Republican stronghold. He'll be massively overshadowed by the association with corrupt Trump.

If the Democrats put somebody decent up then I'd imagine they'd have a good chance.
