Before announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday, Governor Scott Walker tended to some business at home in Wisconsin, signing the state’s budget into law on Sunday afternoon. And one provision will make it easier for factory and retail employees to work seven days straight.

Under the previous law, factory and retail employees were required to take a whole 24 hours off every seven days unless they got explicit permission from the state. Now, all employees have to do is specify in writing that they’re cool with working for a full week.

They are some things in life that just get me seething, this is one of them.

So he is a Christian ( http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/03/ ... tweet.html ) who opposes gay marriage ( http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/scott-wa ... d=32404379 ) but is happy for people to work on Sundays? :slol:

Because just like every single other religion, American conservative Christianity picks and chooses the parts of their scripture that are convenient for them.
He's a homophobe, so it's useful that the Bible condemns homosexuality. But there are megabucks to be made from Sunday working, so let's just skip that chapter...

A lack of empathy and a willingness to accept substantial bribes (sorry, "campaign donations") in exchange for in-office actions favorable to the bottom lines of Corporate America.

If Citizens United could be overturned, a good many currently corrupt politicians would straighten up over time. Make all elections funded from the public purse and a lot more would do the same.

He's doing well now, but if a week is a long time in politics, then 16 months is an eternity. I expect that we'll see several people in the front-runner position over the coming months.

From that article -

"It's ridiculous when people want to work extra hours why Democrats would stand in the way of that," Grothman told the Associated Press. "I don't know why some people want some people to remain poor.

If people want more hours, it's probably because they're being paid poverty wages. Raising wages isn't hard and doesn't, for big businesses, add more than a few cents onto the final product price.

This is why we need people like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren - people who stick to their principles, rather than adopting those of their corporate sponsors, if they even have them at all.

As long as he keeps saying head-line grabbing, pants-on-head retarded things, he'll do well in the polls. Then he'll say something that even his fans can't embrace without looking quite fascistic, and some will even then, but most won't and he'll drop like a stone.

The thing is though, this is a man who is pretty liberal in many areas - he even (apparently) donated to Hillary Clinton's campaigns some years ago. That alone will ensure his campaign's demise. What could possibly be worse than helping your party's arch nemesis win elections?

Republican presidential debate participants have been announced -

Fox News said Tuesday that Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie and John Kasich will all appear on the dais Thursday for the first prime-time debate of the primary season

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/04/polit ... index.html

Trump to take over proceedings, Walker to get found out, Cruz/Huckabee/Carson to say silly things, Jeb to hide behind his lectern and ten minutes of "PLANNED PARENTHOOD MUST DIE!!!"

That's my predictions

Popcorn will be at the ready.

Can't believe this is happening on the final night of the Daily Show. I would LOVE to see Jon cover this.

Looks like the big boy table and the kiddy tables have been set up, then. Trump's still leading in all the polls.

He should prove spectacularly damaging to the GOP's chances next year, if he can survive a round or two of the debates. The longer he can keep his rivals' attention focused on him and off Sanders, the better. Hillary I see as a bit of a lost cause at this point, a once proud ship going down in the email and Benghazi storms that won't abate. Sanders is pulling huge crowds and very little GOP attention, and this is good, but he's going to need a strategy in case they do turn their guns on him.

Trumps problem is that a lot of people don't respect him. Even in the Republicans about a third of the party dislike him.

I would imagine soon people will drop out of the race and will see him lose the lead.

Withthe way the US system works I doubt he'd be able to do much at all.

A President might struggle to get anything done domestically, but they rarely struggle to do things on an international stage. Look at Afghanistan/Iraq, the drone raids in Pakistan etc. And then imagine Trump as the man in charge. Trump going to speak to (and about) other leaders? Trump leading diplomacy if there was a tense situation with Russia or China.

Strictly speaking he has to get Congress to agree to go to war and the same goes for treaties. He would have to bait other countries into declaring war. He could massively damage the US reputation though. His speeches would be amazing.

The worrying thing is he is not the worst candidate.

:toot:

I am not too worried, there is no way in hell that America would vote for Trump to be President. The fact that he might get the Republican nomination (or at least get close to it) shows just how strawberry floated up that party is at the moment.
