Maybe, but if it was done slowly and softly enough then it shouldn’t result in too much panic buying.
When gun laws are brought in, or there is a fear on the right that the government are coming for their guns, it actually increases sales. So I'd rather they just pushed ahead with the ban.
I agree, just getting rid of them would be the best solution. A lot of people would hand in their weapons once they were illegal. Some people wouldn’t, but they would gradually become less important as time went on, their ammunition would run low and there would be nowhere (legal and easy) to buy more. The police would confiscate any weapons/ammunition that they ever find. Etc.
But, the political situation of the USA will mean that that never happens. They didn’t care when 6 years old were murdered in Sandy Hook, they are not going to give a gooseberry fool about a few 16 year olds dying.
But I do think you are right, this is going to go the softly softly approach. Its just sad that will mean a lot more massacres to come.
Oh we have a hell of a lot more massacres to look forward to. They are not even doing the slowly/softly approach but going full steam ahead with weapons for everyone. The President is even calling for teachers to be armed.
They might learn one day, but that day is a long long way into the future.
