It is. Confirmed by friends from Boston.

Why defend it?

"Freedom of speech" march set up by conservative activist group who invited racists to give a speech (but they're not racist themselves because they also invited BLM :slol: ) and later distanced themselves from the other racists, uninvited ones, who did show up.

Who were the racists they invited to speak? I can't find anything on it, that guardian article doesn't name anyone. Apparently the protestors were throwing bottles of piss at police and there are countless other videos of hideous stuff by what looks like Antifa.

Were they also advocating supremacy of one race over all others? Because if they weren't...

FFS Captain Red Dog was asking a question, and Moggy just from that article

Just from that article:

He also claimed to have been maced. “I’m fine now. It was during a scrum with a Trump supporter. Someone tried to spray the Trump guy and missed and got me,” he said.

So peaceful!

He added: “They were given every option to leave, but the officers, they were getting bottles, they were getting pushed and I think they did a good job handling it.” The Police Department claimed that bottles of urine and empty bottles were thrown at them from scaffolding at Emerson.

Fine upstanding citizens!

TV cameras showed a group of boisterous counter-protesters on the Common chasing a man with a Trump campaign banner and cap, shouting and swearing at him. But other counter-protesters intervened and helped the man safely over a fence into the area where the conservative rally was to be staged.

I'm sure that would have turned out well had those other counter protesters not helped the guy out.

Just because the protestors are protesting against a hate group doesn't mean that we should turn a blind eye to them acting violently.

The difference is that such behaviour is in the minority and in the grand scheme of things, wholly unimportant. Some people are dicks, whether they be from the left or right. Who'd have thunk it.

Neo-Nazis are emboldened to the point of massing in some areas, the fact that some counter protestors are a little overzealous in the face of that is frankly an irrelevance.

Whoever becomes President next is going to look boring as strawberry float as people will be used to scandals every other day.
If they don't go on twitter spouting nonsense people will wonder what's going on :slol: .

Now, I've just read a bit about what happened in Boston but from my reading the group that set up the rally denounced hate, from the guardian article:

"Boston Free Speech released a statement to the Guardian saying they would not offer a platform to racism or bigotry. “We denounce the politics of supremacy and violence,” the statement said.”

So in that first part it's pretty clear they are trying to distance themselves from the Neo-Nazis. As I said I've just read a bit about this in the news so from what I know this was just a conservative group trying to hold a rally.

Just laughing off people macing others who disagree with them and calling it "overzealous" is ridiculous. We can all agree it's not on the same level of running people over but it's not in any way shape or form acceptable.

An estimated 40,000 leftwing counter-protesters

Twenty-seven people were arrested, according to Boston police, including one man with a gun, who police said was on the conservative side. A witness said the man had had a concealed weapon and had been wearing a Trump hat.

40,000 people, 27 arrested and at least one of those was a Trumpette with a concealed weapon.

40k protesters and so few arrests? You'd get more arrests and violence at a 40k strong prayer meeting, let alone at a mass protest against Nazis. A protest against Nazis that just the week before led to a Nazi based vehicular murder and a message of support from the President.

I don't condone violence, peacefully protesting is always best. But I'm not exactly shocked that a 40k protest against strawberry floating Nazis might get a bit heated.

You missed the second part there:

Nevertheless, some far right activists had at one point been invited to speak at the rally, before later dropping out over fears for their own safety.

Hardly just a conservative group, they invited far right activists.

Far right does not equal Nazi's but nice try there. :simper:

From the looks of the photos they seem to be libertarians (I'm going by the Don't tread on me flags).

The article mentions Nazi's several times but only in relation to the counter protestors being anti-Nazi, which is obviously meant to imply that they were there to fight Nazi's even though there don't seem to have been any Nazis there.

Here's some more photos from the rally...

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/gal ... ston-rally

I don't see any Nazis.

Edit: I just want to clarify something here as I think we're going off topic.

I don't want people to think I'm supporting these right wing nuts here, I'm just saying that violence committed on anyone at these sort of events is wrong, and it's wrong to say that just because these guys were right wing it's ok to come out and mace them or throw bottles of piss etc.
