That won't happen in the numbers needed though - the US prison system is full of black people doing multiple years or decades of time each for low level offences, thanks to mandatory minimums pushed by racist politicians.

Did you think I was being 100% serious?

It’s a good story and it was nice to see somebody change their life and behaviour for the better. I am well aware that the majority will not change just because they played cribbage with a Jamaican though.

At the bottom of that story is a link to another story about a violent far right gay guy, that one is also worth reading, terrifying man but fascinating to read about.

The problem with the US is you have states where politicians will push for less and less coverage for disaster relief and upgrading infrastructure because they see it as wasteful government spending and the supporters they have love nothing more than claiming that any government spending is wasteful.
When you have a bunch of people who actively call government workers "Parasites on society and thieves and that tax is theft" it's rather hard to have much sympathy for them when they find out that the roads are all falling apart and because they stopped all funding for public transport there's zero alternative.

For those people places like London with good public transport that gets millions of people to work every day must seems like a communist hellscape.

BARB uses a similar method to the pollsters. BARB takes 5100 households and fits them with a meter, special remote control, and software for other devices (provided through Kantar Media). That information is supposed to get an accurate figure of what the country is watching. People often make the common mistake of thinking what they're viewing on a normal TV has any bearing on the rating, but it doesn't whatsoever.

Theoretically speaking, the viewership figures could be just as wrong as the opinion polls if those chosen to reflect the nation are wrong. Streaming and on-demand services in comparison are 100% accurate (unless they're lying, but then they'd also be lying to shareholders).

I understand how BARB works, but it appears that they've just over estimated the viewing figures of Fox News by a factor of 30. I'm guessing it's to do with the method being imprecise with smaller channels, but there seems to be very little point in them continuing with their business

Trump's shrinking West Wing

After a summer of departures by senior officials, none have been replaced, with current staff taking on double roles while other jobs are eliminated altogether.

The problem has been recruiting people to join to a White House where five major investigations – four overseen by congressional committees and one run by special counsel Robert Mueller – are the background static of daily work life, uncomfortable to listen to but hard to tune out.

But staffing up is far down on the list of Trump’s priorities right now. As he heads into an autumn fight on tax reform with a Congress he feels does not respect or fear him, the source close to the president described his mindset, in recent weeks, as “the worst it’s ever been.”

“He feels like this is not what he signed up for, and his accomplishments are being underplayed,” the person added. “He just looks around and says, ‘when is this going to get better.’”

His only accomplishment so far appears to have been to make Nazis brave enough to openly parade on the streets of the US.

If that’s his only accomplishment, then he can look around all he likes but it isn’t going to get better for him.

It will never get better, he's going to have fierce opposition every day for the next 3.5 years. It won't relent and (hopefully) it'll kill him.

Did he really not notice that Obama also had zero support from the opposition party?
It's like he honestly thinks that calling people Twats on Twitter is going to make getting support from those people easier.

It will just continue to baffle him and give him a reason to moan like a little bitch at his rallies and his fans will lap it up while ironically saying anyone who points out how pathetic he is is a snowflake who can't handle the truth.

Death's too good for the banana split. Needs to do some serious jail time first.

He pardoned a racist so there's that.

That's part of the same accomplishment. Don't give him two credits for the same policy.

It could get better for him, if, say, there's a 9/11-grade terror attack on US soil, or he declares war on North Korea. But that's artificial inflation of his numbers based on fear/wartime patriotism, similar to how the GOP benefited from 9/11 in the 2002 midterms.

I can honestly see him declaring war just to bump his numbers.

Presumably his response to the flooding in Texas and Louisiana will boost those crucial crucial numbers to deter him from killing some people.

Even though he's not really done anything to suggest he even sympathises with those who have lost everything.

They say tax is slavery, not theft. :dread:

I went to Buffalo a few weeks ago on a day trip and it really is stunning what a difference it is to Canada. Everything feels like it's just falling apart there infeastructure wise.

Oh they say tax is theft as well or at least they do on the politics forum and they say it with such conviction it's almost admirable in a "You're strawberry floating off your rocker mate!!" kind of way which to be fair would confuse the hell out of them.

The tax is theft thing comes from Ayn Rand.
