I'd much rather Trump came over and saw the protests to be honest. It would actually be politically convenient if this petition gained traction as it would save Trump and May a lot of embarrassment.

Your actually kind of right. China et al are much worse. They do attract protests when they come over here but nothing like whats happening now. I guess people just feel closer to America so this outrages them more.

Part of it is probably also down to "that's how it's always been with China/Saudi Arabia", whilst this kind of thing in America is something totally different to what immediately came before.

Also to expand on what lex-man said its like when some moan that no one cares when a terrorist attack kills 60 people in Iraq but when 3 are killed in Europe everyone cares. There is that connection thing.

This was possibly the quickest petition to reach 100,000. Just look at how quickly it's increasing :slol:

I refreshed it a few times and seems about a hundred a second.

I give you proof of the malevolent evil behind the Trump presidency. Clearly GLADOS is running things from behind the scenes.

You don't even need to refresh the page, every few seconds the counter just goes up.

Also, over 580,000 signatures now.

It's all a bit pointless, it's not going to happen. I could imagine if Charles was king though that he would be more likely to a tougher stance with certain people.

Well, the UK Conservatives in America would be on the left. They're more ideologically linked to the Democrats.

There's also the case that the further you move to the left or right, the more moderate everyone else looks, where once they would have been considered right or left.

For all the comparisons with Thatcher, I don't think May is as strong. But she is also in the unenviable position of trying to be all things to all people like never before.

I've noticed those you'd consider on the hard right of politics (Trump/UKIP) also spend considerably more time commenting and moaning about snowflakes on news stories than anyone else. BBC News sums it up. The most varied of readers of any website and only the Right seemed routinely compelled to comment every single time. For those that hate the BBC they seem to spend an awful lot of time using it.

If you look at the Mail article some people have commented multiple times on the top rated comments (in this case Andre14 and Tweediepie).

Boris Johnson has secured a deal with Donald Trump's senior team that exempts Britons with dual citizenship from the US travel ban, however the caveat is that they have to fly in directly from the United Kingdom.

Trump says his ban will protect Christian refugees. He just sent 6 back to the Middle East.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday that forced six Christian refugees from Syria to return to the region they were trying to escape.

On Sunday, Trump took to Twitter defending his order as necessary to protect Christian refugees from the Middle East.

Trump’s order carves out special standing for religious minorities. But already there is evidence that Trump’s order is hurting, not helping, them. As NBC Philadelphia reported, two Christian families from Syria escaping religious persecution arrived in Philadelphia in Sunday — only to be sent back home:

The families, made of up two brothers, their wives and two children, were detained by Customs and Border Protection officials after disembarking a Qatar Airways flight at 7:25 a.m., according to Joseph Assali, of Allentown.

Three hours later, the six were put back on a Qatar Airways flight to Doha, Assali said.

"This is like a nightmare come true," he said, adding that they had visas and green cards legally obtained months ago.

"They're all Christian citizens and the executive order was supposed to protect Christians fleeing persecution," he said.

So, today I spent 6 hours tweeting and retweeting gooseberry fool, annoying countless people on facebook with links to the ACLU donation page, and donated $50 myself.

Now I need to think of a witty sign slogan for tomorrow's protest in Manchester. Any suggestions?

KKLEIN wrote:Who would impeach him though? The Republicans control everything. And those like Paul Ryan, who spoke out about this kind of thing last year, are now publicly backing it. They won't do anything until Trump's core base begins to revolt.

Decided to look into this and yeah, it's practically impossible unless a significant proportion of Republican Congressmen grow a spine and throw the man they hate out of office. Needs a majority in the House of Representatives, which the Democrats could win in two years, followed by a two thirds majority in the Senate that the Democrats couldn't possibly gain until 2020. Trump potentially ordering the CPB to defy a federal court judgement could genuinely be an act worthy of impeachment, but nothing will be done about it. The majority of Americans that do not want this Presidency are completely powerless until the next run, which is nuts!

Trump supposedly signed the papers to run for 2020 five hours after being inaugurated, which is both apparently unprecedented, and would explain why he still thinks he's campaigning.

Going by the JFK protests last night, you need catchy chants not witty signs. Anyway do something simple like Fascism Is Fascism.

I was thinking "So angry I made a sign" or "Not usually a sign person but...[expletive]"

Fascism is Fascism is good. Careful Now is a little...overdone.

You say that the Tories are more closely aligned with the Democrats, but the way the Tories are trying to strawberry float the NHS up, while the progressive Democratic ideal is an American version of it, says otherwise.

STATEMENT BY SENATORS McCAIN & GRAHAM ON EXECUTIVE ORDER ON IMMIGRATION
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released the following statement today on the President’s executive order on immigration:

“Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation.

“It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trump’s executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.

“Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children.

“Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”
