His fans will just brush this off as yet more fake news.
They will do so even if the evidence is obvious and in plain sight as they really are that blinded by partisanship.
Politics in America really is strawberry floated up.

I don't think you can compare the two at all.
Trump has lambasted the media simply for reporting things he doesn't like and now made completely unsubstantiated claims about Obama that he will expect to be just believed because he's said it and again complain at the media if they don't report about the claims in ways he doesn't like.

The only way we could have a similar situation is if the PM called the BBC fake news and that's simply not happened. The level of crazy by Trump is off the charts and only people with zero objectivity are backing him 100% now and UK politics just isn't anywhere near that level of hatred between the main parties.

I like the headline from New York Times:

Trump, offering no evidence, says Obama tapped his phones:

He doesn't need evidence.

Trumpette terminology:
Something that feels true = "true".
Something that contradicts my beliefs = "fake".

The Obama tap feels true to them, therefore they know it is true. We are dealing with people with no concept of objectivity. This is the scary thing about the whole movement. It doesn't matter how much evidence you have, if it does not fit with their world view they will disregard it. It's like an impenetrable shield of ignorance.

This is that the Whitehouse means when it complains about "fake" news. For them their is no difference between what they believe and what is true. If they believe it is true, if they do not it is false. The media is guilty of reporting fake news because they report facts that are contrary to the far right world view.

Basically they are operating on religious principles rather than scientific principles. In science fact become the belief. In religion the belief becomes the fact.

Well said.
You can point this out to them and they will deny it and say you're the one with the problem. The fact that the President has the same mindset just gives them more ammunition to think they are the ones with the right idea.
The sooner the press just gets in line and just reports exactly what they want them to the better as far as they're concerned.

He's having a bad weekend. These are from a couple of hours ago.

He's going all in on Obama then. Plays very well to his racist base I guess. And gives him a target who probably won't say anything in response.

Obama isn't tied down by the presidential need to be diplomatic about everything now, though. Maybe he'll fire back?

Obama should stay classy and not respond.

Trump is the same man that was fighting to see Obama's birth certificate because he believed he was a Muslim Kenyan. Nothing Obama says will convince Trump, it's best to ignore him and let him make a dick out of himself (again).

Failing New York Times:

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.

Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.

A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

So Trump says the media lies but then believes different friendly media about something like this and his supporters still support him?

It's beyond a joke at this point.

The timing of Trump's latest meltdown is just so glorious. For about 2 or 3 hours, he was getting some decent press and the Republicans were falling over themselves to declare a pivot. Then Sessions happened and of course, once Kushner was in the story, Trump was guaranteed to plump new depths of insanity and rage. Perhaps even more so than as a candidate, where he could weather such new cycles through the sheer speed of a campaign, he has once again and shown himself patently unfit to be President.

The interesting thing is what do the Republicans do now. Do they continue to weather the Russia storm and hope they can control the final messaging of the findings? Or is there a breaking point, a moment when they jump off the toxic Trump train?

Comeys language there is quite clever, not denying the wiretapping but denying Obama's involvement. So for me, it's down to whether this wiretapping happened. If it did, then it is totally inconceivable that Obama didn't know about it, and therefore it is in the public interest to know what he knew and when. Particularly as Hillary did make Russia an issue during the campaign.

I can only see this snowballing as Trump gets more and more irate that people/congress are not doing what he wants simple cus he says so and asks for things like evidence/probable cause etc...
