It's worth noting this was only changed, what, a year ago?
15 000. The Department of Defense is the largest US government employer of transgender people. So when he repeatedly types "JOBS JOBS JOBS" on twitter, he means "JOBS JOBS JOBS aslongasyourewhiteandstraightandaman." And yes, the Pentagon issued a repeal on the ban of transgender employees one year ago.
A 2016 study by the RAND Corporation estimated there are up to 6,630 transgender people on active duty and up to 4,160 in the select reserve. There are roughly 1.4 million active duty service members in the entire military.
The same study estimated that medical care for individuals who transition would cost roughly $2.4 to $4m annually. Every year, the Pentagon spends approximately $6bn on medical care for active members of the armed forces.
He's just pandering to his base after a few bruising weeks (and possibly to solidify them for stupid decisions in the next few weeks)

The man is an utter cretin. I know we've known that for a long time, but what an absolute banana split.
Twitter will be the end of Trump.

Those figures would have more value if they were worked out as "on average a soldier's health care bill for the year will $4,300 but for Transexuals it'll be on average it'll be an extra whatever per year." Am I reading it right that TS troops numbers are approximate 11,000 and the costs are 4 million a year extra combined, so an average $363 a year extra per staff member assuming the top cost?
I'm surprised at just how many frontline troops are Transexuals.
Will this mean existing military lose their jobs or no new applicants allowed?

He said they wouldn't accept or allow. I guess that means he wants to kick them all out.
There is no way he will actually get this through though. Is there? It would surely be unconstitutional?
Dunno if the rules are the same for the military. Women can't (couldn't?) fight on the front lines. Probably few would have the physical ability to pass but assuming there was some who could, they still wouldn't be allowed to.

The DoD spent about $40 million on Viagra last year, for a comparison. Kicking out all the limp-dick soldiers would save 10 times as much. Why are we even discussing the numbers? We all know that's a pathetically transparent excuse,
To be fair, he's just looking to save a bit on Medicare. Like back in the day when he, ruefully, missed out on military service. He was just trying to save a few dollars on the cost of fixing his bone spur. What a patriot!!
Banning trans from any military role? That's just bizarre. I support preventing anyone from going on the front line who doesn't pass the necessary physical tests, but otherwise don't see why you would need to ban someone specifically because they transitioned.
The ban is designed with the hope that it'll force Democrats, in the 2018 midterms, to campaign on what is clearly an egregious violation of human decency (fearing a backlash from their base). They hope the Rust Belt will decry this as the Democrats playing social politics, and will vote against them out of spite. Essentially, it's midterm damage control.
Seems like Hillary was right - even the Republican political establishment thinks that their own base is deplorable enough to use this as political leverage.
