Because his views are totally fluid, changing moment to moment depending on whether or not he thinks they'll "play well" with his fans.

We've seen many politicians flip-flop over the years on various issues, but as far as I'm aware, we've seen none with no defined views at all. Unprincipled, narcissistic demagoguery is the name of Trump's little game.

We'll have to see what happens, but on the day(s) Felix Sater testifies, I expect Trump and co will come out guns blazing, firing volleys of their most brazen attempts at distraction yet. Since this is Trump we're talking about, anything could happen - I wouldn't put it past him to resume the war with North Korea just to distract from the Hindenburg-esque sight of his presidency going down in flames.
