Setting a precedent for assaulting someone for expressing their beliefs is a very slippery slide. If they're doing it peacefully then they should be left alone and protested against peacefully. If they're being violent in epxressing their beliefs then sure have at them (but be prepared to also face prosecution, as they should as well). Using violence never helps bring the opposite side round, it only further entrenches their views and makes them a victim.

^This. Normalizing violence is not something anybody should be doing. This is literally kindergarten level stuff here.

Is it? Why? No ones said Nazi...and then Nazi adjacent? Or just someone who joins Gamergate. Or...etc.

Where's this slippery slope?

But you're working on the presumption Nazis can (should?) be brought around.

Flawed premise.

The objective should be prevention first and foremost rather than rehabilitation.

I guess I'm just of the opinion that people should be allowed to express their beliefs (horrible and unwelcome though they may be) without fear of getting punched or stabbed by the opposite side of the argument. When you use violence against people you just debase and degrade yourself, it's a fruitless exercise.

He wasn't a Nazi, and he didn't get punched. The system works.

Ignoring the "stabbing" part because that's not what anyone said.

We're talking a specific set of beliefs and a group with a historical context.

"Opposite side of the argument" is not really the term to use here, and it's remarkable you felt comfortable typing.

It's not "what's better Xbox or PS4?" ...we're talking a fundamentally evil viewpoint.

The evidence shows that (in the US) overwhelmingly the danger of violence comes from the far right side.

If somebody is out marching in support of Nazism then I couldn't give a gooseberry fool if they get punched.

Apologies for the presumption but this is a pretty easy statement to make if you're not directly affected by fascist, racist doctrine for having a different heritage, sexuality, or religion, where your existence and social equivalency is considered something outright offensive enough to eradicate.

White supremacy and bigotry is not something that can simply be disagreed with and intolerance should not be tolerated.

This might be relevant to you so

No one is saying they should be tolerated. We are saying that meeting them with violence will only lead to more violence.

The fact that people can't seem to grasp that hitting is bad is baffling. :|

It's not really hard to see how we progress from punch a Nazi to Punch someone who looks like a Nazi to stab someone who looks like a Nazi.

Brerlappin wrote:On hitting is bad is it? Better or worse than running people over with cars? Maybe if more white supremacists got slapped in the face when they opened their racism hole they wouldn't have the balls to stage neo Nazi rallies where innocent people get strawberry floating run over with cars and no, no Nazis or people who just looked like Nazis got stabbed accidentally so stop with the strawberry floating false equivalency bullshit

Now I'm no linguist, but from the headline and article it seems as though this person was stabbed because he was mistaken for being a Nazi, you know, despite not being a Nazi.

Nobody supports hitting non-Nazis.
Nobody supports stabbing people.

Your argument seems to be that people should be against Nazis getting punched because one bloke that wasn't a Nazi got stabbed?
