Close down the government?

How would he even do that?

Well usually it would mean that budgets couldn't be agreed and so departments would be shut down as there would be no funding. Clearly Trump can't mean that as he can't fund a wall if the government is not dishing out any cash.

Maybe he means he will try and go full dictator, shut down Congress and be in charge of all budgets himself? His comments on the media would suggest that is what he means.

More likely he is talking his usual gooseberry fool to try and keep his supporters onside. Interesting that they seem happy enough with the idea of Trump being dictator though. :dread:

It would be interesting to know if anyone at the White House is keeping a total of the number of times Trump has said 'But I'm the goddamned President' since he came into office.

Trump doesn't have control of the army though. So trying to take over the country would probably fail. I guess he could try and nuke congress.

I guess he could just shut down the government until the Dem's agree to back his wall building scheme. Although that could take some time.

The Commander in Chief of the armed forces doesn't have control? ;)

He is talking gooseberry fool, but he is acting rather dictator like. Whipping his fans into a frenzy about the media is a perfect example. Threatening to shut down the government unless he gets his own way?

If he is ever impeached then his fanboys are going to burn America to the ground. And he will love it.

The reaction of Trump's hardcore should he be impeached will be fascinating. Every time Trump has managed to rally people it's been in significantly smaller numbers than those opposed to him. If he is removed, I really wonder what form the protests would take, whether they would be organised, permitted affairs or will just be straight rioting, and if it's the latter (which it obvs would be) just how much damage his hardcore would be willing to do. Remember all those "marching to the Rose Garden armed to the teeth" comments they threatened when it looked like Hilary might win?

Hmm

According to the below link he can actually give orders to anyone in the military, so he could try to round up congress unless it's against the military code.

Considering the military have constantly brushed off his more inflammatory rhetoric, I cannot see them obeying any orders that would lead to a dictatorship. Would that technically constitute a coup though? Hmm again.

I said he was talking gooseberry fool, the issue is that his supporters are happy to accept Dictator Trump and will explode (literally) if he is ever removed from office.

The American system should be robust enough to withstand an idiot like Trump trying to become dictator, but that doesn't mean there wouldn't be civil unrest if their wannabe dictator was ousted.

The fact that you even have to have that discussion shows just how gooseberry fool things have become.
At this point I think pretty much anything is possible as if his fans haven't deserted him by now then I think he's safe almost no matter what he does short of actually coming out as a full on Communist and I think even then some on Fox News (Hannity for example) would still find a way to defend him and try and make out that communism has always been the real American way.

Who would they explode against? If Trump got impeached you'd obviously have a large group of unhappy (boo hoo) supporters, but are they going to go toe-to-toe with the police or the national guard? I dunno, I just can't see roving bands of rednecks actually being that successful. Yes they have guns, but would they have the confidence/balls to actually start shooting at the good guys?

Fox News would be super upset and you know the awesome power they wield.

Yes, I know. I was just interested in the theoretical situation I don't think he would actually ever try to do it. Personally I think he's more interested in milking being president for as much cash as possible rather than running the government. If he wanted to become a dictator he's doing a poor job of it.

Also a friend of mine actually went to that Trump demo with his father in law. He said that they got bored and left and that Trump talks about himself too much.

Who said they would be successful? It doesn’t mean they wouldn’t cause an insane amount of damage and kill plenty of people.

The far right murdered somebody just over a week ago, just because a statue was being removed. Imagine what will happen if their glorious leader is removed? And then remember American gun laws…
