Kushner used private email to conduct White House business
The senior adviser set up the account after the election. Other West Wing officials have also used private email accounts for official business.

Presidential son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner has corresponded with other administration officials about White House matters through a private email account set up during the transition last December, part of a larger pattern of Trump administration aides using personal email accounts for government business.

Kushner uses his private account alongside his official White House email account, sometimes trading emails with senior White House officials, outside advisers and others about media coverage, event planning and other subjects, according to four people familiar with the correspondence. POLITICO has seen and verified about two dozen emails.

“Mr. Kushner uses his White House email address to conduct White House business,” Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for Kushner, said in a statement Sunday. “Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account. These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal rather than his White House address.”

Aides who have exchanged emails with Kushner on his private account since President Donald Trump took office in January include former chief of staff Reince Priebus, former chief strategist Steve Bannon, National Economic Council director Gary Cohn, and spokesman Josh Raffel, according to emails described to or shown to POLITICO. In some cases, those White House officials have emailed Kushner’s account first, said people familiar with the messages.

I bet Trump and the Republicans will do nothing about this.

Free college too. I know a couple of recent vets and they're both raking it in now having seen the world with the army. If you're smart and have some luck the army can provide a good life.

yeah you know, like avoiding dying, or getting crippled, or suffering severe PTSD/associated mental traumas from seeing your squad die :?

If seeing your squad die counts as luck to you that's a weird concept of fortune.

Plenty of soldiers, tens if not hundreds of thousands, don't get sent into war zones.

When I was doing my Japanese language lessons there was an American guy in there I got chatting to. The Navy were paying for him to come over to the UK and do a Masters degree at Durham Uni, paying his tuition, accommodation, etc, and all that was expected of him in return was a minimum of 5 years service afterwards. After graduating he'd immediately have been an officer as well.

All that winning must be really starting to get tiresome for the Republicans.

Democrats open investigation into Jared Kushner's private emails

A senior Democratic lawmaker has opened an investigation into Jared Kushner's use of a private email account to conduct US government business.

Congressman Elijah Cummings penned a letter to the president's son-in-law and senior adviser requesting that he preserve all of his personal emails.

Mr Cummings quoted from the Republican investigation of Hillary Clinton's email server to justify the request.

"The public has a right to access public records," Mr Cummings wrote.

"The public has a right to certainty that no classified or sensitive information was placed at risk of compromise," Mr Cummings wrote, quoting Republican Trey Gowdy's letter to Mrs Clinton's legal team on 19 March 2015.

"Your actions in response to the preservation request and the information you provide in response to this letter will help determine the next steps in this investigation," the Maryland congressman wrote to Mr Kushner, a former real estate investor.

Russian operatives used Facebook ads to exploit divisions over Black Lives Matter and Muslims
Facebook announced on Sept. 21 that it would turn over copies of 3,000 political ads brought by Russian accounts during the 2016 election, after previously showing some to congressional investigators.

The batch of more than 3,000 Russian-bought ads that Facebook is preparing to turn over to Congress shows a deep understanding of social divides in American society, with some ads promoting African American rights groups including Black Lives Matter and others suggesting that these same groups pose a rising political threat, say people familiar with the covert influence campaign.

The Russian campaign — taking advantage of Facebook’s ability to send contrary messages to different groups of users based on their political and demographic characteristics — also sought to sow discord among religious groups. Other ads highlighted support for Democrat Hillary Clinton among Muslim women.

These targeted messages, along with others that have surfaced in recent days, highlight the sophistication of an influence campaign slickly crafted to mimic and infiltrate U.S. political discourse while also seeking to heighten tensions between groups already wary of one another.

The nature and detail of these ads have troubled investigators at Facebook, on Capitol Hill and at the U.S. Justice Department, say people familiar with the advertisements who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share matters still under investigation.

Trump, at war with everyone, mocks McCain, McConnell

In private, President Trump has taken to physically mocking M&M: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (slumped shoulders; lethargic body language) and Sen. John McCain (imitating the thumbs-down of his historic health-care vote).

Trump is venting about his frustration with what he considers failed leadership by Senate Republicans as he takes his lumps this week in wars with, well, everyone:

- Steve Bannon beat him last night in the Alabama Senate primary, with the Breitbart-favored candidate thumping Trump's man by 10 points.
- Moderate Republicans killed the repeal of the Affordable Care Act — again.
- NFL players lock arms in opposition to him. And Firehouse Strategies, a GOP firm, concludes from new polling: "[V]oters overwhelmingly (64%) say that the President should focus on other issues."
- He's getting pounded in social and conventional media for a slow, cold response to the humanitarian tragedy in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory.
- Bob Mueller is tightening the screws on Trump's staff, and is now getting data from the IRS about "key Trump campaign officials."
- "Rocket Man" government says Trump has declared war on North Korea. WashPost: "North Korean government officials have been quietly trying to arrange talks with Republican-linked analysts in Washington, in an apparent attempt to make sense of President Trump."

All this has left Trump isolated inside his White House at a time when he needs muscle with the Hill and juice with the public to try to pass tax reform.

With his stoking of the culture war and bombastic style amid national and global turbulence, Trump continues to make every issue about himself — at the very time that he most needs friends.
