Seriously though, £20 says he will say he can't release the proof because it was a private conversation with a widow.

Trump's go to move is to threaten to release tapes he doesn't have (Comey being one fo the most recent examples).

He's not trying to win the argument - he's pandering to his base.

Even if he didn't say that it's a sad state of affairs that people would believe he did.
I'm pretty sure this would have been pretty unthinkable to imagine for any previous President (or at least the last 4 that I have any experience of) as they seemed to have at least a solid grasp of the sacrifice of families of armed forces personnel but Trump doesn't seem to give a gooseberry fool about anyone but himself and his immediate family and I have a feeling he'd even throw them under the bus if he felt it would elevate him.

Yep it's his standard tactic, just like the tax returns. He has them but can't release them because..... reasons. Strangely the press seem to forget it and let him off every time. He should be questioned at every press conference about his tax returns, the Comey tapes, the widow proof etc. They need to stop letting him change the agenda. He is playing the press and media like absolute fools. He can literally drop a tweet and change the subject any time he wants.

I find it astonishing that this man is seemingly unimpeachable, because somehow they've designed a political system where you can get less votes overall, and yet somehow still get the MAJORITY of the Senate? At least that would never happen here because you would at least have a hung parliament.

Not to beat a drum - but his strawberry floating moronic supporters believed it (well similar) about Obama because Trump tweeted condemning Obama for playing Golf when he should be dealing with military dead (IIRC welcoming bodies home). It was complete bollocks.

Do you still think it was a tough choice between him and Clinton? ;)

Votes for the Senate are different votes to that of the President though.

Trump is the equivalent of our Queen (except elected and with actual power).

Which makes Mike Pence the Vice-Queen, a position that he loves…

He's also gone back to Comey today.

Wonder if this has anything to do with Sean Spicer spending the day with Bob Mueller this week. Perhaps Donny is a little concerned about obstruction of justice again.

I wouldn't want Hillary or Trump as president. Sadly the Dems seem to be flirting with a Clinton run again in 2020 which would be another disaster in my opinion.

I'd rather they went with someone fresher like Kamela Harris who seems to be more genuinely progressive.

That wasn't the question and it wasn't the option on the 2016 ballot papers.

Fortunately even on the ballot you didn't have to pick between them and personally I'd have voted for neither as both candidates are significant shifts to the right compared to where I sit.

I am not a fan of Clinton, but I recognise that there is a vast difference between her and Trump. A vast difference.

If people had stopped whining about Bernie Sanders and had looked at the two options (and there really are only two options in America) and thought about what a Trump presidency meant, we would be living in a better world right now.

Not voting for a right winger than you don't like is one thing. Not voting for a right winger that you don't like and then allowing Donald Trump into power is insanity.

But that's a significant element of what happened. They (Not CRD here) couldn't "hold their nose" an vote for Clinton.

And now try to maintain the moral high ground that Trump isn't (partly) their fault - it's the system which put Clinton forward. I mean what did it expect people to do? Compromise? What a bunch of self important pricks

Well yeah, that's what I said.

Bernie supporters that couldn't bring themselves to vote for Clinton are just as much to blame as the redneck dickheads that voted for Trump.

I think Trump is very hamstrung in terms of damage he could cause, but I will accept any infringement on civil rights is a terrible move so on that perspective I might grudgingly accept Clinton would have been the least worst option given some of Trump's moves like the transgender military ban for example.

But the longer term damage for progressives in shifting to the right from Obama I find an uncomfortable position too, which is why I'm glad the Dems at least have the chance to get it right again in 2020.

Whatever you think of Clinton, she would have done more for progressives than just the transgender ban.

Just quickly off of the top of my head without thinking about it I can name Obamacare and the Paris accord. Clinton was pushing for healthcare reform back when she was First Lady, she would have done a lot more for the progressive cause than you give her credit for. She is also the sort of person that thinks about her legacy and place in history, she is cynical and self centred but that would have pushed her on to achieve left wing (for America!!) goals.

Would Bernie have been better for lefties? Of course! But even George W Bush would have been better than Trump.

Trump currently less harmful then W, still at least 3 more years to make a run at that record though.
