They've just passed the Tax Bill in the Senate. Only Bob Corker (for the GOP) opposed the bill that adds nearly $1.5 trillion to the national debt.

The final text became available about 5 hours before! There were hand written amendments that were illegible as well. It is a truly staggering indictment of the GOP. :fp:

For all the rhetoric this is by far the worst thing Trump (and the gop senate) has done. Truly, astonishingly awful tax bill. Feel sorry for the millions of poor Americans who aren't Republicans.

Can anyone explain the Flynn thing to me. Wasn’t he supposed to be everyone’s glimmer of hope in testifying against trump and now everyone is happy that he’s going to jail? I’m confused.

Also how can a country like the US have a system where you vote on a tax bill that you’ve only had a few hours to look over that is also unreadable and be allowed to include things like drilling in Alaska, changing the abortion law etc which has no relation to tax whatsoever? The mind boggles.

I think the majority of Americans have seen through it (according to the pollsters) but for many people this does deliver an initial tax cut, which will then be clawed back and then upped in the coming years. The only thing that is stable throughout is how the rich and very rich benefit immensely as the years go by. The argument being this increased wealth can then be passed on to employees and hiring of workers (i.e. trickle down economics).

There are a few good things buried in there of course, such as teachers being able to deduct $500 in classroom purchases for the foreseeable future and tax breaks for sports teams and leagues being axed or reduced (most stadium redevlopements for example are unfairly funded by the tax payer).

But look, the American tax system is notoriously complex, you could say cynically so, as 90% of American tax payers have to pay for professionals to correctly fill it in (a nice money spinner).

Corporation tax is massively higher than in the UK, but is filled with a cavalcade of loopholes to bring it down to a comparable rate.

If those strawberry floaters start drilling in a wildlife preserve the rest of the world should take economic action and stop trading ANYTHING with the US. Haven't those maniacs destroyed the environment enough already|

He'll have made a deal with Mueller to plead guilty to a reduced amount of possible charges against him. So for less jail time he'll dig the dirt on his seniors in the campaign/administration. So that could be Trump himself, Pence, Sessions, and, as has already been stated, probably Kushner. :toot:

I think the same thing is possible in most countries. The system allows for bills to be amended, so people try to slip unpopular stuff under the radar. I'm pretty sure there is a Simpsons episode that actually talks about this issue. It's been an issue for a long ass time.

The tax break that benefited just one school (the Betsy DeVos one) must have been up there, but it got voted down.

The private jet part of the bill had to be them brown-nosing Trump's fetid hole.

Bet Lewis Hamilton liked that one.
