Anyone have any tips on how to enjoy this more ?

Love Resi 2,3,4,5 but always had trouble with this, when I was young and even now.

Should I just lower the difficulty ? I think my issues stem from the reliance on the awful knife and not having as much time nowadays to wander around puzzling.

Finished my Jill run last night, superb stuff. Lisa Trevor :dread: I never played REmake so I couldn't remember if she was in the original or not but that had a good conclusion.

As for enjoying the game more, you'll have to just get used to the wandering, can't avoid that. Get the shotgun as soon as possible and keep away from using the knife. Just run if you have too. Don't go waisting ammo, every shot counts.

Only happened to me on the original. That corridor by the save room when you come back..it's hiding round the corner :dread:

Yes, lower the difficulty, only use the gun (and more powerful weapons you find) and look up very odd puzzles in GameFAQs so you spend less time on illogical puzzles.

Also, save as often as you can to avoid wasting a couple of hours that you then need to do again.

Wait? Look up the puzzles? Completely disagree. Finished the first one all by myself without a guide or tips. It can be done you just need a decent memory.

Some result in death, which is tiresome when you don't have spare time to do them over.

The puzzles really aren't that bad. The only one that caught me out was the knight room because I was being a complete spanner and didn't realize you could move things.

Well that's just helped me work out what to do there. I didn't realise you could move them either.

I've seen videos of people having the shotgun a lot sooner than where I am, but I can't find the strawberry floater anywhere.

I actually ran into the grenade launcher first.

If you're playing as Jill, its on the ground floor, right after the corridor where the windows nearly cracked...if that ring any bells?

First off, you should definitely play as Jill as her run is easier and she gets 2 extra inventory slots which results in less strawberry floating about with item boxes which is a nightmare in the first 2 hours of the game.

Also, clear every room when possible (pick up all the items in it/solve the puzzle so it turns green on the map) as this makes it far easier to know where you have been, where you need to go and which rooms you have to yet to fully explore. Even if it requires trips back and forth to the item box to drop things off, I find clearing rooms invaluable.

Another tip, when you come up against the giant snake, just ignore it and grab the item you need from the room, you'll never have to go back in there again and it's a waste of ammo killing it. Same thing applies for your first 2 encounters with Lisa Trevor, don't waste ammo (you can't kill her anyway).

I remember in Resident Evil 2 I had to restart the entire thing again because I had played all the way through to a moving statues puzzle in the police station (about 2 or so hours in)...unfortunately if you pushed the statues too close to the wall there was no way of moving them back, therefore you were stuck. OLD SCHOOL GAME DESIGN.

Doesn't leaving the room reset things like that?

Digging out the Resident Evil 2 strategy guide, it says "Be careful you don't inadvertently move the statues in the wrong direction (LOL!): once they go against a wall, it's impossible to move them out again (and thus time to reload)."

I can't remember if I left the room and came back in but I would have thought I'd have tried that.

I'd say the exact opposite - increase the difficulty and aim for an 'A' grade by not saving at all and not using any first aid sprays. The way it's meant to be played.

Don't kill zombies unless you absolutely need to - better to lose a bit of health dodging than waste ammo AND time, because you'll also need to burn them. DON'T set yourself up for hordes of crimsons later on...

Save the magnum for the final boss.
