Why on earth would that be the case? Just because its pre-rendered doesn't mean its going to cost less, if anything it'd make sense that it would cost more to make surely.

They'd have to basically redo every single prerendered background in the game as they were all made with a 4:3 ration rather than widescreen.

Surely making a scrolling static background is cheaper than creating a whole 3D world/level?

I think it's cheaper to create a 3D overworld than doing it pre-render, at least that's what I'm assuming why so many Kids' animation TVs and films are mostly CGI.

I'm probably talking shite, but that's how it make sense for me at least.

The thing is, with a 3D game, you don't HAVE to create a whole new 3D world/level: You can just use the old one and render it at a higher resolution, optionally replace the texture maps and bang it's "HD".

Mind you, REmake didn't simply swap out textures: They really went the whole hog on it, with the backgrounds essentially becoming pre-rendered movies.

I'd be very surprised if Capcom didn't plan for further re-releases like this one further down the line when they did REmake, though, and save the new assets for future re-rendering at a later date. The only thing that makes me wonder whether they did is the fact that it's taken so long.

So is this not getting a retail release in the UK as far as we know? Would be tempted to purchase if I could get a boxed copy

In order to create that 'static background', they'd have to totally re-create a whole 3D world/level and then render it at stupid detail levels.

If it wasn't pre-rendered then they'd have the option of tweaking what they already had at higher resolutions or adding textures, rather than starting over.

The thing is, if they did put that collection out at a reasonable price then it would sell so many copies that the series would gain a massive boost in popularity from an audience that had never played them / got bored of them. This would make the inevitable RE7 a likely success, whereas the route Capcom are currently taking seems to be driving the franchise into the ground.

Yet RE6 still sold enough copies that they're happy with.

1. That's incredibly presumptuous. Why would so many people suddenly decide to buy an eight-game compilation of a series they'd never previously been interested in?

2. My point was that the cost of developing three complete remakes of Resi 2, 3 and Zero would be so prohibitive that the only way Capcom could possibly make its money back would be to charge an exorbitant price for the compilation, even without considering the up-ressed ports of 5 and 6.

It is presumptuous, but you only have to look at the hype The Master Chief Collection has created to see that a carefully crafted, generous package is more appealing than simply a re-skinned version of a game that has already been released and re-released hundreds of times.

You're right about the costs being prohibitive though, when I made the post it was more a dream scenario than a realistic one. Maybe two 'volumes' of the saga would be more realistic, or dropping Zero from the package.

Surely complete remakes of RE2, 3 and Zero would be stand-alone games in their own right, before being a part of any compilation.

There's a very good reason for that, no one could have predicted the game was gonna be bad...so we all bought it expecting great things. By the time we we're complaining the dev's had already made enough money not to care, works the same with all games...even if you decide to wait for reviews, plenty of others will have It preordered for release date. Luckily enough not all games turn out to be such a disappointment.

Nah T, enough people played a demo of 6 so knew what they were getting into. Probably be a great game if it didn't have the Resident Evil branding..

As bad as it was, for £5 quid on steam I won't complain, it was still worth a play through at that price. Graphics were nice on the PC version too, just ashame the game had too many cinematic's were you have to press buttons. Never got a chance to play the demo though, at the time my internet was so slow that I could never be bothered with downloads lol

I'm so buying this not least for the nostalgia. I love the first game, best one in series imo.
