Resident Evil REmake HD. REturn of the REmack - Out now!

There is probably some contractual obligation preventing Capcom from using it or they just lost the assets.

There's no way the artists originally painted everything in PAL resolution because that's pretty much pixel art, it would have been much higher than that and then downscaled. It's sad to lose work like that, but these days things are created and archived in higher fidelity knowing that x HD remaster will be released at some point. Otherwise, of course, how do films and games get remastered at all? Assets are more valuable in this sense than the particular release itself as they can be used again and again.

Or they could just redraw everything but obviously that isn't going to happen.

Even if it was just a 2 minute clip, I'd love to see what could theoretically be done with any of the original Resident Evil's on today's hardware. Just for the sheer wow factor if nothing else.

Remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy VII have to be the 2 most requested of all time & yet neither company seem willing to do it. Resident Evil these days is a pile of gooseberry fool so what's the big deal.

Capcom are in financial trouble and yet they won't make the thing that would get them back in the green. Bit daft really.

All it needs to be is a graphically updated version of Resi 2 - nothing even needs to be changed; the puzzles, atmosphere, insane storyline and everything in between are already there to use as a template.

I still play the GC version of this every few weeks. I know you do as well, and plenty of people have Resi 2 on their all time favourite games list. An enhanced, re-done, REmake style version of RE2 would sell millions on reputation alone, but it's probably too much to hope that this re-release is testing the waters for the sequel.

I'll probably pick this up when I get hold of a next-gen console at the turn of the year.

It is a real shame, yeah. I mean, that Oddworld remake, The Last of Us Remastered, Metro Redux...THAT'S how you remaster. From what you've described there, it's just lazy.
And coming out on so many formats, too! No excuse, it's going to be a right money-spinner.

I'll get the same effect (bar the control tweaks and moving 16:9 effect) when I get my 1080p hardware upscaler and play my GC copy through my Wii using component cables. I loved this game to bits (to the point of speedrunning it loads in the past); but this just smacks of a seriously bad cash-in.

Still, seems to be helping to justify my complete-franchise guide collection plans... :shifty:

I'll probably grab it on PC at good price.... but I'd like them to add subtitles to the game. Which will never happen.
