I'm so glad they got David Wise for the soundtrack, this is the rare game where I won't have a podcast on in one earphone just because I want to experience the music in all of its glory. Really does give the game an engrossing atmosphere, which is helped by the very imaginative level design.

Rather glum to see that those time attack golds are as hard to reach as they were in DKCR though ;_;

Yep. Don't see myself doing many of those time attacks! Anyone got any clue where I can download the soundtrack?

I've had the awesome saxophone solo from the credits in my head all week. Starts at 2.43, goes into Stickerbrush Symphony.

So goddamn 8-)

Chalk another Excellent up for this. I'm not getting hugely long play sessions with it at the minute as the visuals make me want to play on the big screen rather than off TV play (plus I have NES Remix, GTA V and Yoshi's Island on the to at the same time). The level design, as expected is ace, the music is fantastic and it feels like a genuine upgrade over the original. I can tell already ( I'm mid way through the 4th world) that the puzzle pieces and Kong letters are going to be rock solid to find, and the Boss Fights (particularly the 3rd) have been outstanding. Just need to overcome my off TV play pickiness and then I'm set.

Just on the third boss, now. Surprised at the amount of hidden levels and secret exits. I'll be a while completing this.

I got quite upset playing this earlier.

I had a very stressful afternoon and thought I'd wind down by playing this. Big mistake. :slol: I just couldn't seem to get level 6-1 right, I either kept losing lives right at the start of the last checkpoint or just ballsing up getting one or both of the N or G letters. I seemed to be getting progressively worse and lost close on 30 lives before turning it off in a furious rage. I actually started thumping my chest and roaring at one point. :fp:

The bosses are easily the worst part of this game. They just go strawberry floating on and on. So boring.

They can get annoying but I think they break it up nicely. Seem to remember the last one being a bastard though.

 @ puppetboy, I recall shaking with sheer fury at my incompetence at some points.

I didn't think this one was as hard as DKCR. Still tough, but nowhere near the difficulty of its predecessor. Maybe I'm just better now.

I remember dying at least 40 times on the K level with the barrels in DKCR. I had so much rage at that.

These strawberry floating water levels!

I hate the way DK doesn't go in the direction you point him, but has to make this big ass turning maneuver first, usually hitting something along the way. Big awkward banana split.

Also, I can't remember but could you play as the other characters in the Wii version? Kinda disappointing that you're stuck with Donkey when playing solo.

Goddamn these strawberry floating underwater levels. They're bloody awful. I hate the strawberry floating controls so much. CANNOT wait to be done with this world. Not even bothering to collect the KONG or jigsaw pieces, I'm just going through them as fast a I can and getting them over with.

Passed it. Not as bad as I was expecting. But I still died about 6 times due to the controls, specifically the ridiculous turning curve and the delay in how quickly you can do the spin move after changing direction. It makes me wonder if these controls were play tested at all. They're so off compared to the tight, perfectly responsive controls of the rest of the game,

Not playing that world again for a long time.

Completed this tonight. Really good game but at the same time kinda disappointing. It's very by the numbers and doesn't show much innovation 5 years on from the last game. There's no amazing new mechanic or level design like the silhouette or rocket levels from the Wii version for example.

Good points -
-Graphics are stunning
-Controls (above ground) are perfect
-Lot's of secrets exits and levels
-Huge replayability, although I probably won't bother with the time trials as they seem ridiculously hard
-Music is fantastic; love the way it changes in real time to suit what's happening on-screen

Bad points -
-Almost the entirety of World 4 is not fun; underwater controls are nowhere near as tight as they are elsewhere
-Unfair level design at points; things happening right next to you really fast while you're travelling at speed that are next to impossible to react to on your first go
-Long and boring boss battles

Eurgh points -
-Funky's voice DEAR GOD! I had to turn off the sound whenever I visited the shop. And Donkey Kong's dying scream still sounds like he's trying to vomit or something.

Overall, probably an 8/10. I really don't want another sequel for many years and would prefer Retro put their sublime talents to work on something else. I could say the same about lots of Nintendo franchises. There was a time when people called out for a 2D platformers because the market was flooded with 3D ones. Now, between Mario, Donkey Donkey, Kirby, Yoshi & other 3rd party games like Rayman not to mention the whole host of indie titles out there, the market is flooded with 2d side-scrollers. I'd really love to see a great, high-profile 3D platformer again. Even Nintendo's own are only quasi 3D these days.
