I don't have a soldering iron and aren't keen on doing these kind of fixes myself. Hair dryer on the back of the PS3 so it works long enough for a trade in at Game, yes, strawberry floating about with a soldering iron on stuff I'm going to keep, no.

Yes?

You are everything that's wrong with society.

Btw gameboy screens eventually rot, meaning they have no contrast at all anymore. So that'll be the next thing. I haven't tried mine in ages.

I'm visiting York at the weekend, my brother informs me there is a decent retro shop there called Sore Thumb so I might have a look around and see if I can pick owt up.

And the mighty Drummy launched the Weekender with a storming pink-and-yellow combo :toot: . The artwork looks so good in the game and you copy looks to be in excellent condition. Thanks for sharing, man!

Salad, I wasn't familiar with the store but, upon investigating, it seems that it is closed on Mondays. I hope your schedule include a Saturday (10-6) or Sunday (12-5) visit? :toot: .

Yeah we are going on Saturday... I'm not really looking for anything specific but wouldn't mind a copy of Legend of Legaia or Ape Escsape on PS1.

Viewtiful Joe is a great game. Never did get round to trying the sequel though.

I can vouch for Sore Thumb games, that place is a retro gaming paradise, comfortably the best retro shop I've been in. Never seen so many boxed, complete games for older systems. Some great prices too and the owner is really helpful.

Aye, it seemed a decent place. I'd like to have spent a little more time there as the sheer amount of stuff was a little overwhelming and certainly not what I was expecting.

Also, you're right it's not too badly priced either. Even the rarer stuff is competetively priced. I ended up coming out with Ape Escape and Spider-Man on PS1

I remember Ape Escape being a big deal as it was the first PS game that needed the analogue sticks controller  . Spider-Man is great on the PS, too. The shop sounds really cool. Round my neck of the woods - London - there is barely anything for retro-gaming bar RGB in south-west London. In fact, locally the game retailers are dire; I have two GAME stores near me ( :dread: ) and a couple of supermarkets that barely have anything in stock.

I pretty sure Ape Escape is the only PS1 game that actually needs the dual analogue controller... I have a vague recollection of there being an RC Chopper game that required one too but information online seems scarce. I've played through Spider-Man before back when it first came out and I played a little of it recently via emulator to see if it holds up which it does, I love the Stan Lee narration it's a great little touch.

I'm trying to replace the PS1 games I have on my laptop with physical copies but I can see it getting pricey.

Yeah, if you went back ten years then PS stuff was pretty unfashionable and relatively low-priced. In past years that situation has changed and PS collecting can be expensive now. I did collect for the PS in that cheaper period but I haven't bought anything in the past five years. During my active period I did manage to buy around twenty genuine, empty PS game cases to replace some of my poorer condition ones. I believe that genuine replacement cases are very hard to locate now.

I remember talking about the various PS game cases here before... one day I may try and write-up something about them for GR. I know that *everyone* will be thrilled to read such an exciting article  .

Late Weekender post but screw it, it's a Bank Holiday :toot:

Had a games night yesterday with one of my pals, variety was the order of the day! Played as many games on each console as we could, great fun.

Was a complete mess of wires, I really need to get a decent cabinet to house them all in.

Preezy shoots a three-pointer from downtown! You're not late, dude, as the Weekenders are flexible and run from Friday through Monday :toot: .

It's great to see a retro gaming setup in use and it looks like you must have had a cracking night of gaming. SNES Mario Kart, SNES FIFA and N64 Shadows of the Empire... it seems that you lived up to that "variety" promise. It's nice that you can have the gear setup permanently as that makes it so accessible to jump on for a quick game or two.

Excellent... thanks for sharing, man.

Kicking off the Weekender with a post of my newly acquired Sega Mega Drive II, accompanied by a reasonably well kept copy of Sonic 2. Finally reunited with my childhood  :toot:

Prezzy boosts that Friday evening feeling by launching this Weekender with a lovely Mega Drive II! Looks great, man - have you connected it up to your TV yet?

Nice to see that you've set off on this mission with a boxed copy of Sonic 2. Are there any particular titles that you're gonna look out for initially?

PS That second task?!? :o ...  .

I have plugged it into my tv and so far can't get the image to display - it powers up fine and wiggling the AV cable does produce static on the screen, not sure if it's the cartridge or the console at this stage. Disappointing. However, I'm sure with some jiggery pokery I'll get it up and running.

As for titles I'll be getting, I've got a small list at the moment:

Streets of Rage 2
Jurassic Park
Aladdin
Quack Shot
Shinobi 3

Ack. I hope you get it working, dude. I think Green Gecko is a bit of a whiz with connecting stuff to all types of screens.

Yeah, Streets is a must-have and Aladdin is still fun. Take your time and enjoy re-visiting the classics!

Have you tried different games? It's probably just dust. Clean out the cartridge socket.

I've only got the one game so far so don't have anything else to test, but I might be taking a trip to a retro game shop in Croydon over the weekend so might purchase a couple of cheap cartridges just to test it. Also bought a spare AV this evening for a couple of quid in case that's the issue.
