Last week was all about the Zelda theme for me so I decided it was the turn of Sonic this week!

Image

Not quite as comprehensive as I'd like it to be, got a fair few classic games missing and Sonic & Knuckles/Sonic Advance lack boxes but I still love it

Sonic Adventure 2 might not be that special to a lot of people and the Knuckles/Rouge levels aren't great but it holds a special place in my heart, the first Sonic game on a Nintendo system and the GBA Link Up with Sonic Advance, picked it up with my Gamecube on launch day and had so much fun with it. Still pop it on from time to time just to play City Escape and Radical Highway

Focusing on a particular game this week; Planescape: Torment.

The manual's in there too, but it's, well, a manual, so I didn't photo it. It's all in black and white as well which is a bit disappointing given the effort that's gone into everything else.

Dowb' can't get enough of the Weekender... he's back with even more!

The Chaos Engine takes me back to my Amiga days. The title screen music was sensational; really cool. Cannon Fodder, too. The Bitmap Bros and Sensible Software were such famous developers at that time... almost like rock stars! As for the Zipstick controller, it's ace and I used it quite a lot on my Amiga. It was comfortable and lasted really well. It's great to see that you have tons of enthusiam for sharing your retro gear, dude!

It's always ace to see folk sharing lots of stuff, but I also enjot it when someone focuses in on a particular game or item. It's nice to see what was in the box, especially when it has lots of interesting stuff like Planetscape! I recall that the Infocom adventure titles (back in the 8/16 bit computer era) had lots of fun stuff in their game boxes; 3D glasses, weird items and more. Thanks for sharing again, Lotus!

Here is my belated entry for the week. A nice close up look at my copy of Ikaruga. I picked it up on eBay last year for a very reasonable price.

Drummy carries out some stage-diving to signal the completion of this Weekender :toot: . Whilst he's surfin' the crowd, he holds his copy of Ikaruga aloft, proud that such a classic title resides in his collection! It certainly looks to be in fine condition dude - ta for sharing it with us!

 They're great aren't they, love the box art and they're still just as much fun to play now.

Love the Big Box PC game, although Planescape Torment was one I don't think I ever got chance to play, think I still have quite a few at my parents house. Might have to see if I can dig them out for a future Retro Club Weekender!

"Re-Rewind... When Jamo says Sonic Selector!". I missed your post, dude, and I've only just seen your blue blur gear. That's a really smart collection; I've always liked the appearance of Master System cases and you get bonus points for bringing your Sonic amiibo into the picture :toot: . But... where is Sonic Boom? ;) .

Thanks, Jamo, for bringing the focus on speed to this Weekender!

Haha, thanks Jawa. As for Sonic Boom... it's on my 'To Buy' list, honest!

Two thirds of my recent retro purchases arrived this morning and I rescheduled the delivery of the main item for this Saturday and I'm not leaving the house until it arrives.

I feel after parting ways with all my GameCube stuff this could be the start of a whole new collection.

I didn't even know Sonic 2 was ported to Master System, from what I hear they are actually quite interesting games in their own right.

They aren't ports, they are entirely different games. Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos are all worth a play.

There is actually a fourth Master System Sonic called Sonic Blast which is a port of a Game Gear game and only came out on Master System in Brazil. I've not played that one so no idea what it's like.

Man I completely forgot about the Game Gear. It's amazing to think anyone, let alone Sega (it's weird to think about it now but Sega were winning the console war in some parts of the world), even bothered with a competitor to the GB. I do remember someone had it in the playground, it was massive compared to size of the screen and most of that was AA batteries.

Master System was hugely popular in some poorer areas of the world, Brazil being a prime example. There were even special versions of certain games released in Brazil that were re-skinned to be licensed from TV shows.

I remember seeing Sonic Chaos in an Argos catalogue and nearly pissing myself laughing at what they were calling it, "Sonic and the red Chaos Emerald", I have no idea why they thought it was called that.

They probably looked at the box art and made the name up. I bet they didn't actually have a name for it, so the layout designer just made it up.

My entry for this extended weekend. This is a game that is very special to me and probably one of only ten games I have ever purchased on Day 1.

Image

This is without a doubt in my top 3 most played games ever. The sheer level of hype I had walking into GAME that day was unreal and has probably been unmatched by any other release. Here's the inserts and game:

As all my Gamecube games are (aside from 2 which were never issued with one), it's got the UK green triangle on the spine:

And lastly, perhaps sentimentally, I kept the receipt all these years:

What a game.

I have to confess that I prefer F-Zero X...but GX is still brilliant. I completed the Story Mode but had little desire to go through all of the Grand Prix events like I did with X. Looked and sounded fantastic though, and still plays well. Still as silky smooth as ever. :datass:

This is the kind Weekender launch I like to see! Drummy steps up and wows us with an immaculate copy of a classic racer... I can't believe that the receipt hasn't faded away! Great work, dude.

I've never really played GX. I'll have to set it up at some point and give it a good play through
