Devlin that copy of Paper Mario would net you almost £200 on the open market.

Yeah it's pretty valuable. Easily the single most valuable game I have. Last I checked Burning Rangers on the Saturn went for a decent amount too.

Right because my Mac was being an absolute dick this took like 5 hours so here goes, basically my entire collection. Small but I like it, although I've lost stuff mainly due to my dick brother throwing away boxes.

Important note I have been required to state: a good chunk of this collection is courtesy of my other half.

Anyway...

These are all resized to ~300KB so shouldn't be too bad.

Some (impossible to photograph) PVM/CRT goodness (only composite picture for now):

Took AndyXL's advice and tried some Waverace 64, it is indeed much more playable but 9 laps is strawberry floating mad

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Also played some V-Rally, it's impressive for the 64 although as soon as you hit something the cars bounce around like they're balloons on ice which is hilarious, not to mention seeing the track draw in front of you really ages these games.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Bit of 1080, gooseberry fool at this game, it's as hard to pick up speed as I remember and don't even bother doing tricks/jumps to begin with, it's a pretty hardcore snowboarding sim in that respect, nothing like SSX. This is the AI bailing all over the place on the title screen.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Consoles, need dusting.

Always hook up MD Model 1 via Stereo!
Image

My girlfriend's yellow Dreamcast. Mine was stolen.

Image

GF's SNES needs a good clean, I believe it is still coke on there..

Image

My green N64. Had the box, builders or some banana splits threw it out. The controller is cracked from smashing it against a wall, can't remember why. But it works.

Image

Best console ever + GameBoy Player. Still smells of Japan

Image

More consoles. The Xbox is modded, the gold N64 controller is from the GoldenEye bundle. I found the PS1 and 4 controllers in a bin.

Image

Also from a bin, works fine, had to stealth flash photo this one because woman was asleep

Image

Controllers

Image

More strawberry floating controllers

Image

It is what it is. The bongos are awful, don't buy them (forgot to resize, sorry)

Image

GameBoys, this is probably the best part of the collection (except maybe GC)

Image

Image
Image

Metroid II, I'll never complete it because it's a bitch

Image

Pokemans, I had Silver too but no idea what happened to it. Red is GF's - it's fate

Image

Still have the Trainer's Guide

Image

This one's pretty good, a US copy I got from a fake Video Box I got stuff from. It's basically mint

Image

"On videocassette or DVD"

Image

Image

I can't believe the condition this box is in, my gf's parents somehow kept it all immaculate in the attic along with several others

Image

The poster is strawberry floating rad

Image
Image

Great game. The fact I still have the manual for this indicates it one of the one's my knob brother threw away from my storage cupboard (but left about 90% of the other things, rendering the act utterly pointless but halving the value of my collection. Thanks)

Image

afaik these aren't half bad. The boxes are immaculate too

Image

Used to rinse the Harvest Moon games, when they were good

Image

I only finished Oracle of Ages a few months ago, yet to complete DX which I'm playing on 3DS

Image

Really good copy

Image

Image
Image
Image

A lot of these inserts are fun to look over

Image
Image

The worst victims of the great dickery box purge. Both are awesome. I only recently found Zero Mission floating around loose in a Tesco's bag, completely by accident.

Image

Found Advance Wars 2 on import in the middle of a road trip, never beat the game. It's rock hard. It's interesting the US copies each come with a Nintendo Power subscription leaflet that's tailored to each game. I still have the original receipt from 2003.

Image

Note sure what this insert was from, but interestingly it's even printed in Japan. It seems Nintendo hadn't yet moved their distribution overseas or it's cheaper for Nintendo to ship everything cross-Atlantic from Japan than use a distribution centre. In Europe it's done in Germany now.

Image

Got Yoshi's Island together with my GBA:SP. The backlight made a massive difference to the game. I think they were released at the same time.

Image

As it happens it includes this liquid silver themed poster Nintendo were going for at the time, I remember it well. Still the best handheld design.

Image

Couple of boxed SNES & 64 games. Taz Express is gooseberry fool but is worth a bit for some reason. RIP my copy of Banjo-Tooie.

Image

Have the manual for the SGB. The Super Scope is burried somewhere but it's in perfect condition. Of course, it's completely awful.

Image

Decent copy of Yoshi's Island, but need to reflow some solder somewhere, as it crashes on Level 3 or something. It still has save memory so you can just skip that level.

Image

When Mario was 2ft high

Image

Why did Nintendo make this

Image

This is quite valuable. Weird, turn based Kirby golf game. I haven't got into it. The manual on the right is for the SGB, showing how you can make custom colour pallets.

Image

A battered but nonetheless complete copy of Starwing. I only recently managed to beat 1 pathway.

Image

One of 2 MD games (inc. Sonic 2). My step-sister sold about 15 of my MegaDrive games. Yep another sibling betrayal. Bought this on recommendation from GRcade, it's really strawberry floating good, very hard. I've managed to make it to the 5th level that you can't select, I think it's 7 in total but is basically impossible at that point.

Image

Rayman 2 is a pretty solid, smooth platformer. I got pretty far but then my memory pack died and now I can't save. I remeber being furious with my brother because I was convinced he had deleted the save file. My step-sisters friend DID delete my Pokemon Blue save though, with 100s of hours on it. strawberry float them, seriously.

Image

Put insane amount of hours into Smash. It cost £50. I sold all my beanie babies to pay for it.

Image

I've never player Mario 64 because Banjo-Kazooie. They were both on the shelf at Woolies. Correct choice.

Image

Top Gear Overdrive was the cheap game my dad bought with the system. It's not actually that bad. Yoshi's Story is cute but terrible really.

Image

Most of these mint PS1 games were found in a bin. Some good'uns, fun to drop into on the backwards compatible PS3 - HDMI ftw. That silver DVD case is the 1st disk of MGS for some reason.

Image

This is a limited edition pre-order bonus MGS memory card from Woolworths. Also from the bin

Image

Mostly decent DC games. Resi 2 is worth a bit. Both THPS games run at higher FPS than PS1

Image

ReVolt is excellent

Image

My GC collection. Someone stole MGS:TS so I traded Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Squadron for it on here from HM in his giant sale of Cal's entire collection. Worth it, but I do miss those games. I have an extra case for Metroid Prime because the disk mysteriously disappeared. Probably shouldn't have sold Freedom Fighters, slightly clumsy game but it was interesting. I think Melatonin has it.

Image

The standout collectables. Some guy actually had me take a picture of him holding Twin Snakes once. He was strange.

Image

Most (I think) of my NGC collection/subscription. This magazine was fantastic. I even used to read it on holiday.

Image

Current set-up. The lego is a Raspberry Pi that playe emulators, the black case is a PC (missing power supply) and the PS3 is the backwards compatible one with several more PS1 games on it.

Image

So there you have it, a small but nice variety of things to play.

I haven't included my Wii, Wii U or PS3 games. I had about 25 Xbox 360 games and a 4GB Lite console (I wont that in a raffle), but I just never played it. Most Xbox games are just too shooty shooty, vrum vrum brown for me. I don't find the libraries inspiring, plus I have a billion games on Steam and it's basically a PC. Anyway, that's not very retro. ;)

Edit: Oh and I forgot my PS2 games but probably the only notable ones are Burnouts, DMC and Ico, GTAs etc. I had Okami but traded it in - the Wii version is better.

Wave Race 64 is only 3 laps per race.

You, or whoever you bought the game off, must have changed the default settings. You can switch it back in the options settings.

We posting whole collections too?

If so, might do my soundtracks next, then my LE's maybe. Got my PS2 NTSC and PAL, my artbook/guides, figures, accessories and stuff.

I should be able to contribute for a while..!! Finally moved and been able to inbox/display my things, so. Ice to take some photos to catalogue them. Plus, who doesn't like showing off their stuff :)

Gecko understands the idea of selecting one or two pieces to focus on
Awesome collection there (except that Dreamcast and SNES :dread:) although I think you've now shown off anything I was going to!
You should also complete Metroid II. Get a map and it's surprisingly enjoyable.
Also is your collection all displayed like that? It would be good to have a photo of the whole collection to see everything in context

That's an almighty collection GG! Great stuff.

FWIW Taz Express is worth a bit of cash because no-one bought it, and also it's one of only four PAL exclusive N64 games.

Awesome collection Gecko and some amazing Retro posts from other people too  That Paper Mario is in awesome condition Devlin, one of my favourite N64 games (and the last I bought when it was still on the market), I don't have the inserts or manual for mine anymore frustratingly (Although I'm convinced it's somewhere in my parents attic!)

I've been a bit busy over the last few weekends so not really had chance to post anything from my collection but hopefully will be able to get back to it this weekend

What is focus, no compute

Yeah I got a bit carried away lol. I think, I've wanted to add to this thread, and my collection isn't huge, so this weekend I just photo'd all of it so my work here is done. it was really fun going through and finding a few surprises like that wicked poster.

I don't really have any amazing collectors pieces. I just bought the GameCube games in the ordinary course of following such an awesome console.

Thanks Andy, yup it was my GF's brother's. I beat his time on the first track by a minute . 3 laps would be better!

The inserts and stuff aren't out, only the SNES and N64 games are kept in boxes (if they have them). Everything else is on the shelves, and the consoles not in use are stacked on their side on the bottom shelf (the rounded off unit). I keep the gameboy carts out for easy perusing and I jack them into the gameboy player. Everything is in the living room somewhere. So it's all accessible

Some days I just jam random retro games into the console and play them for 10 or 15 minutes. It's actually a great way to get some gaming in and rediscover old classics as most old games have zero pointless exposition, no loading on the carts, online updates etc etc. Sometimes I've ended up playing for hours that way, sometimes I realise I just can't be arsed. It's still a nice way to enjoy a moment of memories and 90s cheese.

Yeah, I love that I can dig out almost any game published pre 2012 and just play it. In past years the game discs have just become access keys, so usually there is megabytes / gigabytes of data to download before you can get going. Bravo Retro!

Sonic 2 and Thunder Force have had hours of play that way. Plus the music through a good stereo is fantastic. :D

That's exactly what I do - it's just so easy to jam in the carts and get playing within seconds.

I completed all modes on Wave Race 64 last week, and am 25 stars into a play through of Mario 64. I jump in and out of Super Mario World (best game ever) randomly the whole time, and also play other random games...For some reason, the SNES game I keep on playing is Tiny Toons - it's just so much fun. I have 4 retro consoles plugged into a CRT in my office (!) - NES, SNES, N64 and Dreamcast.

Unfortunately my collection is completely inaccessible, and in random tubs in various locations :-( I need to get it sorted out properly.

Looking at the above photos has made me realise how much I miss my Gameboy and Gameboy Advance Collection...sold the whole thing for peanuts...I'll focus on that after I've got some more N64 games!

Yeah, of course GameBoy games are perfect for that. They also just have this feeling that they're perpetually underrated. Sure, the graphics aren't amazing (although GBA games are great) but there's a tonne of value in there and most of them are pretty cheap compared to SNES etc. games and they're basically the same thing. GB was my first gaming system so it has a special place for me. For a while I even carried around a GBA SP in my inner coat pocket. It did have a li-ion battery so it lasted ages. Much better than a mobile phone and it's really pocketable - half the size of my 3DS XL that tends to go in a bag.

After all the recent goodness, i thought i'd perk things up with a midweek surprise!

Up for my first post, is the Gameboy Advance classic 'Rythym Tengoku'. A wonderful little game with superb music, that spawned the more well known sequels on DS, Wii and Wii U.

Now that's how game packaging and inserts should be...Bright, colourful, stickers, instructions, cool leaflets...It looks amazing. :toot:

It's a series I've never heard of though.

To think that we spend £50 on a game today, and get a cheap plastic box with absolutely no instructions.

I'm kicking off the weekender a tad early because I know I'll forget otherwise. There's a good amount of retro wonder in here today so I'll need a helper.

Image

Loki? Can you help?

Image

"I will help. I presume there is a chin scratch and some treats in the bargain for me?"

Of course there is. Now, what have we got? Up first, it's a special edition SNES, bought from CEX last week.

Image

That's right, it's a Super Street Fighter II Turbo edition SNES! Loki says - "That's all well and good, but it doesn't appear to have come with the game, and that is bad."

But it just so happens...

Image

That's right! I have a copy already, alongside around 20 other SNES games that I will show next week. Loki is pleased with this, but he laments that unfortunately the SNES itself has some slight yellowing to the front of the console. He hopes that this will be repairable at a later time.

Next on the list is an update on our quest to collect excellent N64 games. Loki rates his excitement at:

Image

"Melancholy out of ten." So here it is:

Image

With a whopping 70 games, nine of which are boxed, the collection is now becoming quite valuable. Loki laments the fact that Banjo Kazooie's perfect condition box is stuck in my mum's loft, but he is pleased to see that the collection is coming along smoothly. The latest additions are the following:

Image

Why, it's the Tony Hawk games that were released to PAL! Loki notes that according to the oracle of knowledge(Wikipedia) in the PAL territories, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was actually released before the original, owing no doubt to some tomfoolery on Activision's part.

And that's it, until next week when I will delve into my console collection for your benefit. And because he's been a good boy, I have taken the liberty of giving Loki a chin scratch on behalf of all GRCade.

Image

His final thoughts:

"I hope you have enjoyed our presentation."

Lol thanks. Yeah, it still looks brand spanking new. It was a Japan only release if memory serves right, hence why it was little known here, til Rhythm Heaven.

Ooh I spot Glover and Mischief Makers in Cora's post... always wanted to play them. Snowboard Kids is a cool wee game; had lots of fun playing that back in the day.
