I've decided I'm playing sonic 3&knuckles as my post horizon pallet cleanser. Hopefully have a shitty flatscreen in the loft that may have scart so I can use my proper hardware.

Part of me would like to think attaching monetary value to something would mean I'm more likely to play it, but nahhhh.

I too would never pay that much. However, I'd like to think that should you end up with a relatively complete collection, all together that'll be an incredibly valuable thing to pass on to your kids someday.

(Make sure they don't do what we did with our SNES boxes as kids; cut them up to use the screenshots as images in our own hand-drawn gaming magazine )

The sad thing is, I don't. In fact, I'm probably going to have to sell a few other gaming-related items to pay for this, including my Yoshi 3DS and possibly my entire Dreamcast collection (although selling the latter would help fund another expensive SNES game I currently have my eyes on)!!

Yep, that is a really nice pick-up, Andy. Game pricing is an odd thing...the most that I've ever paid was £79 for a boxed, complete copy of Knuckles Chaotix (32X) about six years ago. It's perhaps more surprising that complete (inc season pass) games from the console digital stores can now be around £85 .

Oh blimey, yeah, thanks man - I remember it popping up and then totally forget about it. I will watch it later . I've never played that much 32X; I didn't have it at the time but I did pick one up (boxed, in nice condition with all cables) around 2010 and I have, maybe, eight or nine games for it.

With the impending as arrival of an actual decent sonic game for the first time in 20 years (adventure and generations were gooseberry fool, deal with it). I decided to get the mega drive out and see if it still works, can find a tv with a scart input and play sonic 3 and knuckles.

Oh yeeaaah


Not only that, but it still has my full line of complete saves somehow Go 13 year old me!


Regarding the state of that aspect ratio, that tv came from dad's place and had no remote, so I can only select the source with the single button, not any of the options for it. Oh and SCART looks like utter dog gooseberry fool

Composite will. You can buy RGB scart cables that will look loads better.

For like £20 I'd say it's definitely worth it.

I might pick one of those up, although you can't use it with the 32x so I'd need 2.

I've watched the first part of that Digital Foundry assessment of the 32X and it was well worth the time. I hadn't quite appreciated how the system ran the Mega Drive and 32X aspects as two separate processes; it seems pretty complicated but there is a lot of unfulfilled potential there. It was effectively doing some parallel processing and it was cool looking at how some games exploited the feature.... whilst some didn't . I'm looking forward to seeing the second part of the assessment.
