I've been hearing a lot about this on GAF and various podcasts and am just wondering if anyone here owns it? A quick summary of the game for those not in the know -

Basic Gameplay

In the game the player selects a boy or girl playing retro games to appease the Demon Arino (based on the TV show's host Shinya Arino). The Demon Arino gives four challenges to complete for each game.

Each game is original, but with graphic, sound and game-play elements which make it look old, or retro. Many of them are similar in both gameplay and appearance to real Famicom games of those years. They come with fully illustrated manuals.

Occasionally there will be a fake gaming magazine, Game Fan Magazine, that has articles about the games, rankings (with other fictional games named), and "game advice" from GameCenter CX ADs who have appeared over the seasons of the TV show, or, in the case of the North American version, real game journalists under pseudonyms[3].

Some parts of the various games are inspired by actual challenges that Arino has faced in his TV episodes. For example, the bonus character in the second half of stage 1 of "Star Prince" is taken from his attempt to get bonus points from playing Star Force in Season 1. The various "special" continue tricks (like in Haggle Man) are from his attempts to play Mighty Bomb Jack and The Wing of Madoola as they too have secret continue tricks. Even the ending to the game pulls a trick from Takeshi no Chōsenjō from season 1.

Video games

The games presented are fictional games made specifically for GameCenter CX, although they are given fictional dates of release.

Cosmic Gate

* A 2-D fixed shooter game in the vein of Galaga. The player views their spaceship and oncoming enemies from a top down view and can move only left and right along the bottom of the screen.

Robot Ninja Haggle Man

* A side-scrolling platformer game in the vein of Ninja Jajamaru Kun in which players stun and kill enemies.
* Haggle Man's Japanese title is Karakuri Ninja Haguruman (からくり忍者ハグルマン ,lit. Device/trick Ninja Gearman?).

Rally King

* A top-down view racing game in the vein of Road Fighter and MotoRace USA which incorporates simple drifting mechanics. The title screen of this game is in the vein of the title screen of Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally.

Star Prince

* A 2-D shooter game in the vein of Star Soldier advertised as an improvement over Cosmic Gate. It boasts the added elements of moving up and down as well as transforming between multiple ships.

Robot Ninja Haggle Man 2

* A sequel to Haggle Man with better graphics, it alleges expanded levels and tougher enemies.

Rally King SP

* A sequel to Rally King featuring ramen noodles in the vein of Gradius variant Gradius Archimedes Hen and All-Night Nippon Super Mario Bros.

Guadia Quest

* A traditional RPG in which the main character is descended from a hero of legend. The character is tasked by the king from the show with gathering a party to defeat the king of darkness. The game is similar in style to the Dragon Quest series.

Robot Ninja Haggle Man 3

* The sequel that actually changes gameplay drastically. Similar to the NES version of Ninja Gaiden.

I really dunno how easy it'll be to get in 6 months or so (same reason I ordered Persona 4 today :fp: ). It seems to be £19.99 on Movietyme which seems reasonable. Anyone any thoughts on it?

It's gooseberry fool. The games are boring and the dialogue in between is rubbish. Avoid.

ITT, you are not allowed to have an opinion that differs to GameRankings.

What on Earth? The games, if released in 1986, would be seen as average at best. Why should I play below-average, '20 year old' games in 2009?

And some of those scores are ridiculous. I'd be leaning more towards a 4/10 than the 95% it's been given on one site.

Yep, that's the law.

Okay, so it was a bit harsh of me.
Still, he is wrong. Probably.
At the very least he should recognize that perhaps it's just his personal tastes before saying it's crap and possibly steering people away who might have really enjoyed it.

I like to think that this forum has moved beyond the point where you have to put "IMO" after everything. We're intelligent people. Mostly.

Of course it's my personal taste. I said it's crap, which means I think it's crap. You should recognise that your point is moot. Stop being weird.

As MCN has pointed out, we are mostly intelligent people. So here's an intelligent response to your post.

I've been a massive strawberry floating douche in this thread.

That is all.
