I think Metroid would actually be too dark to play.
And the Zelda one actually winds up looking a fair bit like Four Swords
The Super Mario World one has too little to distinguish between foreground and background elements, thus leaving the player unsure of where he can stand.

Brilliant. Can't decide which one to use (most likely the Zelda one). Would love to see games (re)made in those styles.
