Just noticed that. It's not Jedi Knight, it's just Star Wars: Dark Forces. Then came Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II. Then it went to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast before ending with Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.
Dark Forces was a pure FPS with puzzle elements and no Jedi or Force powers. It was one of the first FPS I'm aware of that had simple objectives beyond just getting to the exit. It was the first thing in Star Wars to show how the Death Star plans were actually stolen (Don't believe the Rogue One propaganda!).
It's an awesome game and with the XL Engine it runs great on modern systems. Now if only they'd finish it so you can actually complete the game (There are some bugs in later levels about 2/3rds of the way through that make it impossible to finish at the moment) it'd be perfect. They're also porting Outlaws to it, which will be awesome if they get it working.

It's a mod in the same way the various source ports of Doom are mods. It just makes it easier to run on modern systems. Though if you really want to dick about with DOSbox and use keys to aim up and down that's your choice. I'm just saying it's far more playable and enjoyable with it.
