You put them to the mermaid statue.

I got myself confused trying to type out a guide for you so here's GameFaqs to the rescue.

From the room the Dodongo Snakes are in:

Here, just avoid the Dodongo Snakes and continue up and left into the following room. In this room, jump over the lava-filled gap and stand on the middle platform. Defeat the Gels that appear, then jump over the second gap to the left and beat a couple more Gels. Then, unlock the door with a Key and enter that room. In this room, go down and left around the barrier, then take the Winged Arrows by using the feather to help, then go left into the next room. Here, just go left and defeat the Snake Ropes, then go up the steps that lead outside of Turtle Rock.

Outside, defeat a Mini Moldorm and a Crow, then climb the steps and take a Heart Piece. Then go back down the steps and go right across the bridge to the next scene. Defeat another Crow and continue right past the warp and to the next scene. Here, defeat a Shrouded Stalfos, and then go back inside the rock through the cave entrance you see. You'll be on a ledge above the "pit" of Dodongo Snakes.

Beat them by placing a bomb, then picking it up. When a snake is moving upward straight towards you, throw the bomb down and it'll eat it and get injured. Repeat that process until both snakes are destroyed and the treasure chest appears. Open it to get a Key.

Regarding the bolded part, hopefully you've already unlocked this door.

Nope, that door is locked.

There's no way I can fudge up the dungeon, is there? As I used one of my keys on a block that didn't really do anything to help me. There's no way I can run out of keys if I do things in an odd order, right?

No. That was all sorted after Zelda 2.

All I can suggest is to either use this guide (probably one of the better Zelda guide authors on GameFaqs) or start the dungeon again.

Gah, still no luck. I must be missing something but it really does feel like I've messed the dungeon right up.

Anyway, as interesting in LA seems to be waning, people can start nominating a game for the next Retro Playde. We'll try and get a vote sorted so we can start by Monday.

It's a shame not many people saw it out. I've still not finished; poor Link is sitting inside the Wind Fish Egg waiting for others to catch up.

I might just go ahead and go for the boss today. End game report to come later.

I'm stuck in the Eagle's Tower. Still one pillar to bowl over. It's getting a bit frustrating with all the wholes in the ground / switch blocks, etc.

I guess in general I'm not good at keeping track of routes. My only problem with this game is that it's all so labyrinthine, it's never straightforward to get from A to B.

I can't tell you exactly which room it is, but if you're on about the pillar I think you're on about, you need to bomb a wall somewhere.

It's the room that has two lines of blocks, and you bomb the room above it.

Helpful, I know.

I'm also waiting right near the end now. Just need to get the directions from the library, then into the egg. I'm still missing three pieces of heart, but not sure if I can be bothered to hunt them down. I can wait more if others want to do the final section at the same time.

Due to the football being on, I didn't get a chance to play it.

I'm still up for playing through the last section together.

Anyone else near the end yet for a grand egg-athon?

Would GBA be considered retro enough for the next Retro Playde? If so, a couple of suggestions: Metroid Fusion? or Zero Mission? Not played either in ages, but I remember thoroughly enjoying both.

Or how about Golden Sun? Pretty hefty game, but lends itself to checkpoints and that.

I played Golden Sun in June, so I don't fancy going through it again, as it's long-winded enough as it is. Some of the cutscenes were.... so... slow.

I'd be up for other GBA games. I found a LTTP map which reminded me that I never did fully complete it. I didn't finish Fusion either.

It's unlikely my retro choices will make it anyway - Shadowman, Shenmue, Body Harvest, JFG or DK64. I quite fancy an N64 game next, personally.

What's the difference between this thread and GRplayde. given that Mario RPG is definitely retro?

At the moment, not much. This is only for Retro, though. Ideally, the GGC thread was for more modern titles, but the voice of the people rose up and "Super Mario RPG" it did spake verily.

Also, was anyone else here aware of this?

I remember noticing it the first time I heard it in LA.

Same here. I find that entering the first shrine is one of the most potent sections of the game. The music in Tal Tal Heights as you draw near to the end of your quest has had a similar effect for me. It generates the sense that the world is structurally primed to collapse.

Anyway, I'm set for the tackling of the Egg, now.

Right this seems to have fallen on its arse a bit. I've asked for people to suggest the next game to play but, again, these have not been forthcoming.

So, I'm inducing an emergency period of 48 hours for people to suggest a game for a shortlist so we can all get voting. If this does not happen, we shall play my choice:

Shenmue

In order to celebrate the DC's tenth anniversary.
