Does the 'steal' cheat also work in the original version? If yes, how does it work?

Cheat? Don't you just pick up an item and walk out the door? Or is there a way to do that without the shop guy noticing?

In the original version, you can't walk out the door while you have the object in your hands.

Yes you can walk behind the shop owner, but after that you are always called thief and the shopkeeper tries to kill you if you enter the shop

Marin and Tarin are now consistently addressing me as THIEF.

I don't know whether to  or  ...

Bottle Grotto complete.

Nice and breezy dungeon, with no real problems of note. The mini-boss was ridiculously easy, and the Nightmare didn't prove to much challenge, despite him killing me once, bringing my death count up to 3.

Some stats:

Deaths: 3
Hearts: 6 (Heart Pieces 4)
Seashells: 4

I now have the shovel, bombs and the bow. I stole that last item from the shop.

I played up to the Key Cavern last night and saved at the entrance. For me, the 2D Zelda's (Ages, Seasons, Awakening) pick up around the 3rd dungeon. I can't remember much about the next dungeon, but I'll tackle that tonight and clear up a few things for Monday, including hunting for more seashells.

Key Cavern done with now. I think I've died three times up until now, once when I took my eyes off the screen to look at the tv. :fp:

Finally started this. At first I was a bit meh, but then I found the sword and the proper music kicked in and everything became shinier and better and I felt all
That was the first time in years that a videogame made me feel genuinely stocked like that. All hail the mighty Miyamoto- and Kondo-sans.

Key Cavern complete. No deaths this time. :D

That was a great dungeon, and the Pegusus' Boots rule. I was down to my last sliver of health facing the Nightmare, but got lucky as he was too, evidently. I remember having real problems wth the mini-boss in this dungeon before, but this time was a breeze.

I played on to get my 5th heart piece; took my total of seashells up to 7; and got the Ocarina from the Dream Shrine, and learned the Ballad of the Wind Fish from Marin.

That'll do for now. Roll on Monday. :D

I'm about to go and look for those golden leaf things. Do I do this before Key Cavern, or does Key Cavern involve this? I'm a bit lost (oh how surprising, the idiot Pancake is confused again yadda yadda yadda etc etc etc). :)

Excellent, that makes sense. There is no way of finding a shovel is there?

Yeah the sig took me ages! 8-)

You have to buy, or steal, the shovel from the shop.

Thought so.

EDIT: I'm pretty certain the shopkeeper is having a cheeky fiddle.
