So would a retrospective of a pre-PS2 era game be incorrectly named? Don't be daft.

'Retro' basically means something which is related to things past. If it was originally made for a console that's no longer being produced, then why can't it be termed 'retro'? After all, the consoles themselves are consigned to history's dustbin, ergo they're from the past rather than the present.

All I can say is don't get Smash TV because it's awful.

You can also play the entirety of the game from the trial version. Unless they've patched it now.

Pre-PS2 would be more than 1 generation old.

I just think that to call something Retro implies that its quite old, not just a few years old. I wouldn't say ICO, Halo or Super Monkey Ball were Retro.

I also distinguish between something that is actually Retro (as in old) and something that just has a Retro style.

Maybe thats just me...

It's not on XBLA though is it?

You really need the Sega Arcade Stick to play it properly though - all those button combos...

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I don't think you can get it at all now as it was one of the games taken off when Midway went.

No it isn't. These are the games that have been de-listed (not all because of Midway):

Battlestar Galactica
Gauntlet
Joust
Defender
Cyberball 2072
Double Dragon
Paperboy
Robotron: 2084
Root Beer Tapper
Smash TV
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Speedball 2
Lost Cities
Dash of Destruction

Get the HD remix of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, it's a great game and you can play with the original retro backgrounds and sprites.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I don't believe the original Galaga is up either.

I think I'm right in saying that you can't change the backgrounds back, only the character sprites? Which is pretty daft, fair play.

Otherwise though; much love for HD Remix

If you are looking for a Retro-style game, theres a few worth looking at on the XBL Indie service.

Arkedo Series - 01 JUMP! in particular is great.

I don't really download retro games to be honest. In the past I've downloaded a few titles and been like "this is awesome" then the rose-tinted glasses come off and I go back to playing Modern Warfare.
