LeChucks Revenge is somehow even better though. It's a masterpiece of P&C design and arguably the best game in the entire genre.
Curse of Monkey Island is really solid as well, even without Gilbert at the helm. Looks great and has some fantastic characters.
The Telltale, Tales of Monkey Island was ok, but its very easily forgotten.

It's only really Escape that lets the series down. It just never transitioned to 3D particularly well and I remember being utterly frustrated with it, especially with the Monkey Kombat section later in the game.

Might do a replay of them all in the run up to this.

Really excited for this. Actually only did a binge watch of YouTube videos about the first game a couple of weeks ago. Never quite got on with LeChucks Revenge as much as the original. Perhaps that's because I played the original as a kid and so it has all the nostalgia associated and I only played LeChucks many years later. Love Lucasarts point n clicks so much. Might also do a playthrough of either the Monkeys or Lucasarts.

Do we have any idea when this is out?

Just reminiscing about this some more. I bought the original MI for the Amiga at Amiga Format Live, which I believe was at Earl's Court. I also bought Wing Commander, which was painfully slow but very atmospheric.

Those big carboard boxes and the slow loading and the sense that you were really experiencing something a bit new, a bit cutting edge... it really was very exciting.

It was the amazing selection of trinkets you would get in some of the boxes too. Hired Guns and The Chaos Engine were almost works of art when you opened them up.

First one I ever played was the PS2 game, and got about half way through the first remaster on PS3 and then I must have got distracted with something else.

I can't remember if they were PS Plus titles or I purchased them, but both remasters are sat there on the PS3. I really should get round to playing them. Despite originally playing the majority of point n clicks on PS1, I still prefer playing on a computer with a mouse, it's just more comfortable and better suited.

Shame they're not on Mac really, as Grim Fandango is.

Wonder if maybe the classic games will see some type of current console re-release in the lead up to the new game? Drum up more interest in the sequel

I'm excited for the new game. Like others, the first 3 Monkey Island games were favourites of my childhood.

Felt like revisiting LeChuck's Revenge, and was about to buy a Special Edition steam key when I noticed it's free this month on Amazon/Twitch Prime. Then I noticed I already had it in my Steam library! :slol:

I wish they'd go back to the visual style of Curse of Monkey Island. It was by far the best the games have ever looked.
The remasters of 1 and 2, which from that video seems to be the kind of style they're going with here, we're just nowhere near as good.

Original Monkey Island 2 had the best look for me, I really didn't get on with the visual style they went for in Curse - impressive though it was for the time.

I'm with Laga on this one. I started with Curse, so that's just what the series looks like in my mind's eye.

Agree. Also found Guybrush being lanky to be really strange. Love Dominic Armato but initially found his voice jarring too. Felt (in my head) Guybrush was more deadpan and British. Kinda a cross between will turner and Jack sparrow. However, couldn't imagine anyone else voicing him now.

Yep, the OG Monkey Island 2 visual style is my favourite by a mile.

Was hoping for a trailer in the Devolver show tonight...no such luck. It's all gone quite quiet...holding out hope for a reveal on Sunday during the Xbox showcase.

A lot of the scenes shown looked like straight up demakes of MI2? I thought Switch was getting some sort of shrunk down version of the first 2 games for a moment.

Looks nice anyway. Can't wait. Hope a physical version is on the way.

The art style is horrifically off putting and actively pushes me away from wanting to play it.
