This is about Christianity and nothing else, using just about the laziest philosophical themes there are; what if God was an alien and the difficult conflicts of a religious scientist.

The set up itself is okay but that's not anything to be commended. So much just seemed odd. Like the Engineers having human DNA. Or the bizarre change in tone from Shaw ripping a squid out her womb to meeting Weyland. Or why Vickers bought a state of the art surgery kiosk designed for blokes. Or what is up with all these different human civilisations knowing where the Engineers'; weapons facility is. Or the pointless xenomorph at the end.

The dialogue and script are jaw droppingly abysmal at times. Vickers' father revelation line and Shaw blurting out her infertility were the highlights. Nobody acted particularly well, Fassbender was good but then I can't remember the last time I've seen someone play an android unconvincingly.

Exceptionally disappointing and worthless installment of a franchise that should be left alone if this is the best anyone can come up with. Nowhere near as gooseberry fool as the AvP series but I'd argue at least as cynical a cash in on past triumphs. Ridley Scott is a hack.

I watched it again a few days ago and would agree with Cutty. It was fun the first time round, stupid in hindsight, crap on a re-watch.

The engineers had human DNA? Don't you mean we have the engineers DNA since they created us.
Its obvious that the Metapod was for her father who was hidden aboard Prometheus.
Did it mention something about the engineers possibly visiting earth several times in the past?
The Xenomorph at the end should lead to the first film Alien where they find all those aliens on the planet
I understand that there are many unanswered questions in the film but I had to address some of the ones you mentioned

• No I mean they went all "This is a total match for human DNA!" which is like, nonsense. Could have said Engineers and humans/all life on Earth shares x% of the same DNA. But no, some CSI grade overlapping gooseberry fool instead.
• I thought she was hoping her father would hurry up and die already at this stage? "A king has his reign, and then he dies. It's inevitable. That is the natural order of things." Either way, the state of the art Metapod being gender specific is dumb in itself.
• Yes but why tell humanity over and over the location of their bio-weapons facility? To what end? An elaborate trap? It makes it easier to write a film with "The gods have been wanting us to go here since forever! Oh no it's a bad place. :("?
• Why will it? It's stranded on an uninhabited moon. Nothing suggests the alien at the end is going to spawn all the eggs in Alien.

Of course it won't, not the same planet/moon from Alien. But if it was the same location then it could. A drone can become a queen if one doesn't exist. Or so I read in one of the Aliens novels :shifty: And Alien 3 sort of suggests that too without actually mentioning it..

The books are quite decent tbh.
According to the lore that was extended in the books all workers are female, if there is no overriding pheromone from a queen then the newly hatched worker will start changing in to a queen.

Iirc there are male Xeno's in a hive but there are only 4 and act as a type of bodyguard, they aren't as big as the queen but dwarf the workers in size and strength.

The whole idea of a lifeform that's force-evolved from black goo and born out of a woman's vagina, then going on to have a reproductive system of it's own seems pretty weird. But I'm no biologist.

You would build that type of thing in to increase the overall lethality, it is a bio weapon after all.

I still think the original, cut idea for the eggs in Alien is better than the insect colony one that came about. Gives the xenomorph that unsettling nature of a perfect virus and the realisation of what all those eggs used to be.

All those thousands of eggs are the crew of the downed ship cocooned by the Space Jockey's chestburster. A single specimen is the perfect bio weapon because it self reproduces an entire plague.

I liked that idea too. Where Brett has started to become an egg and Dallas is ready to be implanted.

That one chestburster could start an entire infestation off anywhere is a great idea.
