I agree that Scott did more to expand the Sci-Fi genre, but Cameron took many of those ideas to another level. As a franchise, this has probably spawned more cliches than any other... Motion Trackers (although the original one Ash hooked up was a bit gooseberry fool); the whole 'traitor in our midst' plot (I absolutely ADORE Paul Rieser as Burke, and Ash was a complete surprise); the alien being on board at the end; marines being decimated while the hero demands a retreat and their commander does nothing; Flame Units (nuff' said)... need I go on?

Still, I'd have preferred to see the xenomorphs reach Earth as opposed to a seemingly pointless prequel.

You forgot Aliens Directors Cut with the sentry guns.

...which is, of course, another trend set, being the first and best DC/ extended movie. It should be taken for granted that I was referring to the definitive version.

The teenaged girl slams closed to door the barn. The Alien Cow hurls itself
against the door again and again.

EXT. SMITH FARM - DUSK

Karen runs screaming across the field as Sam runs out of the house with
John Jr. He grabs his sister. The Alien Cow battering rams the door,
smashing through it in a shower of boards. It gallops across the field
towards Sam, Karen, and Mark. Sam heaves his siblings into the pickup
truck. He turns the the engine and step son the gas, ripping out of the
driveway onto the main road with the Alien Cow charging after it.

Yes, but you missed out the sentry guns in your list of cool things. :D

I hope it's going to have Danny Dyer in it. Otherwise I'm not interested.

Just because it's set before Alien, doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a human cast, just that there won't be any survivors who manage to get the word out.

I can never pick between Alien or Aliens, they're such different films and they're both brilliant at what they do. Alien 3, despite the shitty way they dealt with Newt and Hicks, is pretty great in my opinion.

Alien Resurrection, and everyone involved in it, can go die in a fire.

So, all that Pilot gooseberry fool will finally be explained, and maybe there'll be some light shed on the Queen vs egg-morphing stuff.

This. I tend to float between which of the first two Aliens I prefer depending on mood. Hated 3, resurrection was very "meh", and the less said about the cross-overs the better.

I think the way Hicks and Newt were "dealt with" was actually very effective. It was crucial really, in that it further highlighted how the xenomorphs were responsible for everything Ripley knew and loved being annihilated.

Alien - her entire crew is wiped out, friends of hers for possibly years and years.

Aliens - whilst in cryo-sleep her daughter has lived and died without Ripley ever knowing her, all because of what happened in Alien. then all her hopes of wiping the Aliens out comes at great cost of human lives, such as the colonists and the marines. But hey, at least Hicks and Newt make it out, and they're really nice people.

Alien 3 - Hicks and Newt die in brutal and helpless fashion, all because of the xenomorphs.

Good stuff :D

I'd go as far as saying Aliens is one of favourite films. The extended edition is just awesome, and massively improves on the original theatrical release. Alien 3 was awful but it's understandable how that happened.

Resurrection, I just don't even know.

I don't get it, the first Alien film is supposed to be about the first human encounter with the race...

so what the hell's a prequel to that supposed to be about? Just aliens and no humans? :?

Er, I hope so, I have no idea how that could work!

The first two Alien films were and are amazing and among the best films I've seen. 3 was pretty good and the rest, well don't go there. Hopefully, with Scott on board the prequel will be awesome.

I hope they show more of what the corporation actually doing with the Aliens cause it seems like quite a bad idea to sell them as pets.

What if the company sent someone else before redirecting the Nostromo to the distress beacon on LV-426.. Hmmmmm. What if it was this other group that set off the distress beacon... Hmmmmmm.

Maybe, they could just do a three hour film based around what the Nostromo crew were doing before they got the distress signal.
