Would have been nice to have a more competitive basketball final to conclude on. USA really have dominated.

Shouldn't be an Olympic sport.

I was looking at the results of Olympic basketball the other day, I think it's something like only 4 times the US hasn't one a medal in it since 1936.

That entrance from the Japanese Prime Minister

Amazing!

Dressed as Mario and entered the show via a large green warp pipe in the middle of the stadium

Hmmm....

It'll be cringe worthy Mario vs Sonic with a sprinkling of final fantasy characters that I know nothing about.

On one hand I'm surprised that Tokyo were awarded the 2020 Olympics given it was held in Beijing two cycles ago. Then again, when you consider that its rival and alternative in the bidding process was Istanbul, perhaps not so surprising.

Seems like 2024 is destined for Rome or LA.

There's no way America should get it again. Yeah, okay, you're country's massive but if you win, you'll have had it three times in 40 years (with the same city holding it twice in that time).

Hosting an Olympics should be one of those "once in a lifetime" events, or at that very least it should take quite a while for it to come around again.

American cities seem to think they should bid pretty much every time. It was because they felt they should have got the World Cup in 2022 and lost to Qatar that kicked off their FBI investigation into FIFA.

I think Rome had in in 1960 so give it to them instead of another American Olympics, which anyone over the age of 25 can remember.

They are two completely different counties and cultures, mind.

Also, they are over 1000 miles apart.

In complete fairness they should have won the 2022 World Cup bidding process, and FIFA were corrupt as strawberry float.

There's no disputing that, I do, however, think that having another Olympics in East Asia so soon after Beijing, when it's only been held twice since the last time it was in that area of the globe, is a little too soon.

And when you consider it's not going to go to Africa, it's going to be going back to Asia if it's not going to Canada or USA or maybe Mexico.

If I was voting*, I would have wanted it to go to Australia. I'd prefer it went to someone that hasn't had it in the last thirty years, plus it's a new host nation.

*if no-one was willing to give me a £10,000 watch or my not-yet-conceived son a job
