He's being charged by the FA not the CPS.

Fergie should have put his foot down on players using Twitter in the same manner he did with autobiographies. That or restrict what they can and can't talk about on it.

This. All footballers should be banned by their clubs from using twitter. Ferdinand is one of the biggest perpetrators. Very large fines should be imposed by the clubs.

Imagine if United got Sneijder last season, they have spent more time tweeting than playing

I don't think they should, they should just be punished more if they say something stupid.

I think one of the reasons why Twitter is good for footballers and other celebrities is the fans of those people can actually talk to their "heroes" as it were and although they may not always get a response, it makes people really happy when they do. More should be done to bridge the gap between Celebrities/Sports personalities and normal people. Sure they may be famous but they're still human just as much as anyone else and shouldn't be kept away from the general public (as it makes them seem superior to everyone else)

You can't stop footballers (or any 'celebrity' for that matter) using Twitter. I just think if they say something out of line about somebody else or behind closed doors stuff at their particular club (as in need to know basis) then yes they should be fined by their club.

The majority are fine. It's the buffoons who make the headlines.

They have every right to if the bollocks they write ends up with them getting suspended.

Fines won't do much good when you're at the business end of the season and someone integral to your team loses it on Twitter.

Lots of sports clubs throughout the world have banned their players from using Twitter at various times

I appreciate that but the police have opened an investigation haven't they?

But I maintain the FA are wasting our time and money on this when they should be tackling more fundamental issues in the sport.

Dunno about it being a waste of money (from the FA side of it) but yeah, the original tweet was/is being investigated. I stand corrected!

captain red dog wrote:It's actually quite a worry trend how Twitter is being policed like this. I believe Rio even said he thought it was a term to describe someone as being fake and didn't realise the racist angle was there. Must say I haven't heard of that term before this incident.

I just wonder who is pursuing this as I doubt Cole would want to take it further. Just a complete waste of our time and money.

Agree.
