Why the strawberry float did the banana splits buy them in the first place?

Never really used the site but God it seems like the market for enthusiast gaming press is shrinking rapidly. Bad times

Its sad that games media in general is moving in the direction it is. I guess youtube is killing everything. Loved their videos over the years - thanks for the memories!

Seems like difficult times for lots of sites these days with giants like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter dominating so much.

A real shame, I always enjoyed their reviews.

Stopped watching their reviews as their vids often contained more spoilers than I liked, but they were genuinely good before I quit. Their BioShock opinion was especially great.

What a load of bollocks.

The corporate guillotine falls again. I suspect that GT weren't up to the seemingly normal trend of "gaming sites must make all of the money or we'll close them down". You can't buy the kind of pedigree that 14+ years of activity and content brings. I had always known GT were around, I've watched their videos every now and again and was just getting back into stuff like the Final Bosman and their podcasts on youtube.

I think that there is a clear difference between obnoxious OTT youtube "personalities" and the kind of group editorial content that sites like GT as well as Giant Bomb put out, I guess its a generational thing. Much like how sites like Massively carried on when joystiq was also axed, I hope they can all come together and start something that is GT in all but name. How long-running and decent sites like GT which has, as far as I can remember, stayed clear of all the gaming shitstorms like gamergate etc., get axed when sites like Polygon or Kotaku somehow stay afloat is beyond me. I'd gladly sacrifice both of those to keep GT going.

gooseberry fool :(

I watch a silly amount of their stuff on YouTube and twitch, it was just the best mix of personalities and plain old silly games chat that I've come across so far. This is really going to leave a massive gap in my gaming viewing and I don't think there's anything about to replace them for me, genuinely gutted :(

I've kinda thought it was coming for quite a while because they've been chopped and changed and shifted around so much in the past 18 months that it just felt like Defy were trying to find a place for them. That genuinely seemed to have stopped when they moved to their new location just before Christmas and with a few other cutbacks (losing Elyse Willems) I thought they might be alright for a while.

Feel really bad for a lot of them as they were only saying on the last GT Time how much they loved their jobs and how lucky they were.

Gutted :(

Hope they land on their feet.

Edit: Their final stream is up on twitch at the moment, they came back online after being told

I imagine most of them will band together and make a youtube channel/twitch stream and continue making money that way.

They don't need the GameTrailers brand imo.

GT were my go-to for E3 coverage, so I'm going to be sad to see them go :(

What a load of bollocks.

Why do you care?

Personally I think they should have went all out and embraced the youtube crowd when they had a chance but now they were second to it. Every major game website has a youtube channel, did this place? If it did, it wasn't highly promoted. Also, they seemed to be the online EDGE or at least think of themselves like that, reviews usually against the grain.

This. They should do well with subs at start.

They had a YouTube channel and promoted all the time. Don't think they had enough subs to support the group staying together as a whole

Well I never knew they had and it never popped up on my page even during E3, I'd have to go to their website or app on phone, so something went wrong somewhere.
