There hadn't been any of those for aaaaages.

I just read about this on Destructoid and am shocked. This completely came out of the blue for me. Wasn't a big fan of their 'shows' but I really liked their reviews (they were my favourite site for reviews...), E3 coverage and game of the year awards. I checked the site at least a couple of times per week.

They will be missed. :(

Haven't used them for a while but they used to be my go to for video content. I'm sure a few of them will band together and start something on YouTube, hopefully they can fill the gap left by The One Up Show.

Gone were the glory days during that invisible walls period, it really captured the COD/space marine vibe during that time. Ever since Shane Satterfield left, GT was going through a downward spiral as it was left with people who didn't know what to do with it couldn't give it a identity.

This seems to have been coming for a while now. Things haven't been right ever since Bosman went on hiatus for a few weeks when they were acquired.

Gutted, I watch a tonne of their stuff on Youtube and Twitch. Their content has evolved in recent times into a Second City Improv style lead by Kyle Bosman and Ian Hinck which I've really enjoyed. I just tweeted Brandon Jones at the weekend about their GT Countdown too and he replied straight away even saying they'd do more in that talking heads style as opposed to a video montage.

Huber Hype will be a big miss too, he was coming into his own with that show. Final Bets with him and Bosman seemed to up the ante and get bigger each year.

Shame!

gooseberry fool way to do business notifying everybody pretty much on the same day. Totally unnecessary. The management of Defy Media should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

How has the brand in the space of just over a year got into such horrible shape since leaving Viacom.

I don't want to have a dig at Defy too much as I think they've basically just given them a lifeline to keep going and keep the people employed ever since Viacom let them go.

I've spoken about it with chalky a fair amount because I e really wondered how they've been viable for the past year as I don't know where the money was coming from. Losing Michael Damiani was clearly a big mistake as he was the driving force behind a lot of the Retrospectives and he created all the Pop Fiction stuff too, which is why that's all been missing for over a year.

I think its failure might also have been what drew me to it, the fact that it was just like discussion with your mates. It just seemed like they were happy to coast along a bit. Without Bosman and Jones I'm pretty sure it would have been closed down a lot longer ago.

What a load of bollocks.

Why do you care?

Personally I think they should have went all out and embraced the youtube crowd when they had a chance but now they were second to it. Every major game website has a youtube channel, did this place? If it did, it wasn't highly promoted. Also, they seemed to be the online EDGE or at least think of themselves like that, reviews usually against the grain.

Because I liked them? Do to have to have a reason? Can someone add this to the OP?

Express your disappointment here. Must have valid reasoning.

Still incredibly bummed out about this, I'm really going to miss just listening to these guys chat about the news (it's basically the only place I get gaming news from), and events in the gaming industry. I really loved their E3 coverage last year from the previews to the post visit discussions, sum ups on GT Time, Final Bets etc. Loved it all

Can't imagine how much it would suck to just go into a job you love talking about your favourite hobby and then just be told you're done and it's all over. Daniel Bloodworth is even on his honeymoon right now. Seems like they just got told to clear their gooseberry fool and get out, really scummy way for Defy to do it, even if it had to happen at some point.

I really hope there's some way this kind of content can exist in the future rather than the shitty just played and rank low quality twitch streams that polute the gaming landscape now. While they had their fair amount of messing around, even too much sometimes, their production values were great which just made everything a really pleasant watching experience.

Eurgh 2016 strawberry floating sucks

I've been subscribed to them on YouTube for years, never seen a single advert... they probably should've monetised it.

Barely any money in YT ads. They had ads on their site's player.

Worse still even, when you take into account that Brandon is the founder of the company and they just let him go like that. :fp:

I stopped visiting there as soon as they went to YouTube. Damn, they were the first reviews I went for, guess I'll have to make do with GameSpot.

I have been visiting GT since it was launched. I'm going to miss it loads.

Their streams are amazing. Huber's full playthrus... I know his RE2 one wasn't saved but his evil within one was amazing.

+1 for them being missed.

I'm sorry to say that I rarely visited it outside of E3 anymore. Usually I'd pop in from time to time to watch some Final Bosman, but that was it really.

One of the things I loved about their E3 coverage was that you could tune into it from the start and never have to move anywhere else. All the conferences with some decent bits inbetween. Was always a highlight of my year. Hope somewhere else takes up that mantle.

I was a bit indifferent to this when I heard. But then I remembered they do The Final Bosman.

I love The Final Bosman. strawberry float this day.
