That was their big news? A XbobX upscaled version of a 2 year old exclusive that's no longer exclusive?

Everyone's played it, at the time or on PS Pro. They've missed the boat. They have this outdated thinking that raw power = results.

I kind of hate how you have to choose 1 of 3 improvements. It's like in my mind I don't know what one I should be using and therefore I'm missing out on something by using one over the other.

High frame rate is the obvious choice there.

It's a difficult line to judge, though. Nintendo have - rightly or wrongly - been b*llocked on many occasions for issuing "underpowered" hardware; and MS got stick for the XBO being less powerful than the PS4. MS are now launching a beast of a console and some folk are claiming that power doesn't matter.

(This isn't directed at you, Buff - just a general observation!).

I agree but feel it will be the trend until 4k is more standard.

I'd be more impressed by the X1X if it could do all 3.

The most powerful console ever made...but it's still strawberry floating weak sauce. :P ;)

Nintendo don't really factor into this. They distanced themselves from the grown-up's table a long time ago. They make kiddy games that appeal to man-children and will never, ever compete with the other two.
MS's teraflop dick-waving has come to late. The PS4 Pro is a mistake, and for them to make an even more powerful machine to play the latest Assassins Creed shite in 4k is a mistake.

I'm not sure... I have a Pro and I like it, but it feels like MS is taking a better approach to harnessing the additional processing power than Sony has done so far. I'm hoping that a resurgent Xbox brand will cause Sony to up their game.

Oh come on, Nintendo's output, it's hardly stuff that makes hardened, savvy veterans want to go wow at. For years now, it's just quaint happy-go-do stuff. And that's fine if you like that. But I'm like, 'give me an experience like The Last of Us', then it never will.
Although, to some of you, that's entirely the point of Nintendo's existence in the first place.

Yet another Zelda game that appeals to Zelda fans, seemingly as lucky as they are. That doesn't detract from my point, in my opinion.

Have you actually played it? Complete departure from the previous games in the series in terms of structure and gameplay.

I think it's fair to say that Nintendo's output is centralised upon a bedrock of family-friendly gaming; and I do like that. When they get it right, it genuinely feels good to play the games. But, yeah, I agree that the more gutsy games are unlikely to find a home on their plaforms and I'd hate to miss out on stuff like Fallout, Mad Max and Wildlands.

With the Pro and the OX likely to become the key machines for Sony and MS, it seems more likely that the technical power will continue to cause that difference in game styles, too. If push came to shove and I could only have access to one console then I'd choose the Pro... but I really wouldn't like to miss out on the imagination and fun offered by a Nintendo console.

I'm sorry if I went off topic. I haven't played the new Zelda but I'm aware of its more 'classic' gameplay tropes, having played a few previous games myself.
Also, I know it's probably ridiculous to expect a Last of Us-esque game on a Nintendo console myself, but part of me wants to challenge Nintendo by saying 'why not?!'
So...Tomb Raider

New one completely does away with them.

Which is why I'm hoping it got the accolades it did. I'll never play it because there's only 24 hours in day. You cats that are invested in it sound like a real lucky bunch though, I can see that for sure.

If you're wondering how Xbox One X is capable to enrich the visuals of the games, the developers of Rise of the Tomb Raider might actually have an answer for you. They released during Gamescom 2017 a 4K gameplay trailer of RotTR entirely running on Xbox One X with all its benefits shown. Let's compare that footage with PS4 Pro version recorded at 1080p in Enriched Visuals mode and with 4K PC gameplay (purehair not enabled).
