Title RoboCop: Rogue City
Publisher Nacon
Developer Teyon
Format PS5, Xbox Series, PC
Release June 2023 TBC September 2023 2 November 2023

Teyon wrote:Become the iconic part man, part machine, all cop hero as you attempt to bring justice to the dangerous, crime-ridden streets of Old Detroit. Armed with your trusty Auto-9, factory-built strength, years of experience on the force and a variety of tools at your disposal, you will fight forces seeking to destroy the city you call home in an all new first-person, explosive hunt for the truth. You have the power to decide how to fulfil prime directives in your own way, but as the story unfolds proceed with caution because corruption and greed know no limits.

Teyon wrote:RoboCop is a classic sci-fi action-adventure and one of Hollywood's most iconic film franchises of all time. First released in 1987, the franchise continues to resonate with audiences around the world today. NACON and Teyon are working with MGM to develop an authentic RoboCop game experience that is faithful to the franchise's DNA, while immersing gamers in an original story that enables them to play as none other than RoboCop himself. In the RoboCop film, when good cop Alex Murphy is fatally wounded by ruthless criminals, innovative doctors are able to piece him back together as an unstoppable crime-fighting cyborg called "RoboCop."

Everything in that promotional text there reads like they didn't get that the film is a satire and critique of a militarised police state.

In the RoboCop film, when good cop Alex Murphy is fatally wounded by ruthless criminals, innovative doctors are able to piece him back together as an unstoppable crime-fighting cyborg called "RoboCop."

Presenting the people who made non-consentual use of a butchered policeman's body, as though he were simply property of the police, and inflicted the trauma of converting him into a cyborg, while unsuccessfully erasing his memories, as just "innovative doctors" is hugely missing the point.

Consider me very sceptical that this will actually capture the point of RoboCop at all. I'm sure it'll be a half competent action game that apes 80s action movies and people will lap it up regardless, though.

Weird timing as I literally bought Robocop on 4K yesterday and watched it last night.

It's being developed by the same Polish team who made Terminator: Resistance which had a lot of AA charm around it.

It wasn't anything especially original, but it was reasonably well made and played well enough, so if this is at least on the same level I'd interested to see it.

It's not on the PS4/XboxOne. It's Next Gen (Current Gen?) only which I assume is what RG meant

I really don't think this game will be anywhere near as good as Robop on the Spectrum.

Nail on the head mate, I've only got a PS4 and a Switch lite. I'll need some financial good fortune to upgrade to a PS5

It's kind of sad that the best videogame version of an iconic character came out 35 years ago on a Speccy.
