I enjoyed it, overall. Too many spinners...but I like spinners.

Why did that vertical spinner not have any way of righting itself? They absolutely obliterated that microbot at the start and then just cocked up.

(Also, flamethrowers are legal and they seem to have much higher weight limits in this - What actually are the criteria your robot has to meet?)

If I remember the robot has to have what can be considered a damaging weapon as its main method of attack which means you can't enter with a flipper robot which is incredibly bothering when you're use to robot wars.

Battle bots is very American, the robots are big, they are flashy, the damage they do looks cool but might not actually be effective, the robots are also designed in a way where you can spot the design problems at first glance which is different to robot wars where a lot of the design issues in the latest series were internal issues such as mechanical failures.

Spinners are even better in battle bots than they are in robot wars, the robots are huge and don't have to worry as much about what kind of damage the robot can do to itself, furthermore with flippers being absent from the American meta game spinners like the first one we saw don't have a robot design that can naturally counter it outside of another spinner. Even then if flippers were allowed the bigger robot size means the spinner gets to spin do fast that the flipper has the risk of being destroyed they the spinner has to blind spot.

From what I've seen of battle bots on to and on YouTube I still fancy our robots over theirs if the weight gap was closer.

No pit makes the Battlebots arena instantly superior though. Just needs house robots.

Watched Battlebots. Well if you ever need an example of the differences between the UK and the US. Jesus christ :dread: Thought as a show itself was dreadful. Too many voices. The pre fight hit button make lights go wow thing got old after just one showing. It was so sloooooow. The judges :fp: Robot design was just erratic. The format felt like an anti-climax. We are part of the way through round one. Woop.

Having said all that the battles had robot on robot carnage so I'll keep watching.

Christ this is so bad they basically didn't bother with a bunch of fights. :fp:

The net was hilarious but so stupid. How could that be even considered legal? It wasn't even part of the strawberry floating robot.

I almost wish I'd watched this instead of the Paralympics now.

These robots are gooseberry fool for different reasons to ours. What good is a spinner if the bar flies off after a hit :fp:
Also the salt from those uni lads with the technicolour hair :fp:

Still can't help but watch like.

Robot Wars to return for two celebrity Christmas specials
In each hour-long episode, four celebrity teams will design their dream robot with the help of an experienced roboteer from the series.

Anyone watching the new series of Robot Wars? Started watching a bit late. First match I see literally ends in 15 seconds because the one robot can't reright itself. Good to see they're as reliable as ever :fp:

EDIT: Oh no, the cocky berks can't repair their machine in time and have to forfeit(!)

It's wrong that a show about fighting robots can manage to be boring. I can't understand how they've done it.

Anyone watching the new series of Robot Wars? First match ends in a count out, but at least they’ve got rid of the ridiculous league structure.

That first final was great, though.

The people’s champion 8-) Robot Wars needs more machines like that that have potential (somewhere) while also not taking themselves too seriously. The cluster bots were interesting, too. Hope there’s a lot more machines that are exploring the changes to the rules.

On a side note, how poorly made is the arena this time around? One show down, and it’s already broken twice.

Next week is going to be shite, though. Carbide :x
