DROPSHOT SMASHES THE ARENA FLOOR ON MARCH 22

Another FREE mode is coming to Rocket League later this month!

Dropshot is a brand new take on Rocket League gameplay as we introduce dynamic breakable floors and an electrified ball, all within the confines of a new hexagonal Arena, 'Core 707'. Instead of pushing the ball into your opponent’s goal, your objective is to destroy panels on the opposing team’s floor, and score goals through those gaps.

Our new game mode is all about Damage! Along with our usual stats like Goals, Assists, and Saves, Dropshot introduces Damage as a statistic -- the more damage you do, the more floor panels break, and the easier it is to score a goal! Each panel can be hit by a ball twice -- the first hit activates the panel, while the second breaks the panel, creating a new scoring opportunity.

The new ball has three different phases, each more powerful than the last, that determine how much damage is done when the ball smashes into the floor panels. The second and third phases are activated by multiple Battle-Car hits, so the longer the ball stays off the ground, the more powerful it becomes. While the first phase of the new ball only damages one tile upon impact, the second and third phases can damage up to seven and 19 panels, respectively.

Along with Dropshot releasing on March 22, we have a host of other changes coming to Rocket League, including new achievements/trophies, painted Bodies and Rocket Trails, an Esports content button, the end of Competitive Season 3, a new Skill Tier hierarchy, and more!

Dropshot is an interesting change (pretty much volleyball), but it's absolutely not fun for me. My biggest annoyance with high-ranked play is the removal of the ground game. Nobody ever lets the ball even bounce and you have to fly at every single thing. Dropshot is a mode all about that, and as a result is more attractive to the top 0.1%. All our opponents yesterday were Grand Champions and Rocketeers and in one match, literally a guy that won the Season 2 world championship. It's utterly exhausting.

Probably same reason as Minecraft. Sony said no.

Would love to play with some veterans / experts on here, master on ps4 nearly expert on PC. Being matched with random noobs is the most stressful thing since bread.

I'm assuming they still hold their grudge against Nintendo after they went into business with Philips instead of SONY all those years ago. It took many years for Nintendo and Square to bury the hatchet and I'd wager this will take even longer if it ever happens at all.

I don't think it has anything to do with that as they had chance to have cross-play with MS ages ago and refused.

Maybe SONY just don't play well with others then.

They were open to it on PS3 when sales were way behind 369, but MS wouldn't do it, arrogance on the leading parties maybe?

Will the Switch version include all the DLC as well? Never played this but would be perfect on Switch

Well I mean they have cross play with Steam but I don't think they particularly see them as a competitor

I think it's because they have the biggest install base and therefore by doing cross play with the other two consoles it inadvertently helps them (in terms of matchmaking etc)

It doesn't need helping, you think finding a game of rocket league on Xbox is hard or something?

We've got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base. Minecraft - the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it's all ages but it's also very young. We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it's something we have to think about very carefully.

Sony is thinking of the children.

No, but from a business standpoint that is clearly the reason.

Same reason Nintendo has games on mobile and not on Vita

This is such a well supported game, I'm so pleased it's dpne well. After giving it away on ps+, at least the devs can make their money back by selling it to Switch owners now. :simper:
