Any tips? I felt like I was getting in Crimson's way a lot of the time (sorry about that)!

Definitely up for more games soon. :D

Good games. Nah you weren't getting in my way, I tend to play fairly defensively so there were times when both of us were back when one of us should have probably been up supporting Jiggles but that's the type of thing you only learn when you play with the same people regularly. We worked pretty well as a team considering that was our first set of matches together.

The main thing you'll need to get a handle on is the lingo.

If you go to blast out a clearance but screw up the shot so that it only goes 5 feet, that's a Crimson Clearance

When you go to hit a shot at mid range to an open goal but end up hitting it closer to the corner that's a Crimson Shot

A Crimson Save is when the ball comes in at goal at high arc and you flap around in a panic and miss it completely

Out of boost? That's a Fucksake Crimson

Hilariously missed an ambitious aerial? Crimson's Fault Somehow

Rocket League cross-network play (PS4/Xbox) ready, only needs Sony approval

Psyonix vice president Jeremy Dunham says work on Rocket League's proposed cross-network play between PS4 and Xbox One is now complete, could be up-and-running within "a few hours", and only requires Sony's approval to be released.

Speaking to IGN, Dunham explained just how close the groundbreaking feature - which would allow play across Xbox Live and PSN for the first time - could potentially be:

"Right now," explained Dunham, "we're literally at the point where all we need is the go-ahead on the Sony side and we can, in less than a business day, turn it on and have it up and working no problem. It'd literally take a few hours to propagate throughout the whole world, so really we're just waiting on the permission to do so."

In March, Dunham said that such a solution was "figured out" but not finished, and that Psyonix needed to "find out where we stand politically with everyone". It seems that Microsoft has since approved the move, leaving Sony to give their final say. Unfortunately, Dunham's not aware of when the word could come:

"It could be tomorrow, it could be longer than that. We just don't know - we're anxiously awaiting that, just like the rest of ou fans."

Dunham was keen to make clear that Sony's lack of a decision does not seem to be out of philosophical reluctance to allow such a move to happen, rather that it's a case of making sure everything's in place on its end before committing:

"Sony's such a big company that I'm sure it takes a while for them to figure out what it is that the roadblocks are, what sort of issues they might run into with other titles, any number of things that I can't even begin to speculate on. We definitely ask them for updates often, and we're still very confident that they're eventually going to open those doors and welcome us in, but we also are really understanding that it's going to take a while especially given all the ramifications of everything. It was just as much of a surprise to them as I think the rest of the world when Microsoft said that they would do it."

Blizzard has previously expressed interest in cross-console play for Overwatch, and Dunham says such announcements - alongside public interest from fans - could help expedite a release:

"I think that the more companies that show the world that they're interested in that sort of thing, and the more communities that get behind it, the more likely it is that it'll happen [...] We think that the gaming community as a whole is the final voice in this - it's what they want which will determine where we go eventually."

With console cross-network play somewhat in limbo, then, does Dunham believe it will come about? His response is typically, and infectiously enthusiastic:

"At the risk of sounding naïve, I do think it will happen. Whether or not it'll be soon is another question. The sooner the better for us, and for our fans, and fans of other games [...] I do think it's inevitable, I think the industry is going to get there, because I don't see the downsides from it."

Major "Surprising" Rocket League Update to be Announced Within Two Weeks

Rocket League will reveal Rocket League's "surprising" next update in the next two weeks.

"As we get closer to the Rocket League Championship Series," explained vice president Jeremy Dunham to IGN, "around that time [August 6-7] is when we're going to start promoting our next update - and wait 'til people see it.

"We've got something brewing that a lot of people have been asking for in different forms but is also very surprising. It's going to be interesting, but it's going to be cool too."

It's not immediately clear what that much-requested feature could be. Popular ideas on the Rocket League Suggestions forum include garages for saved cars, more customisable vehicles and custom goal explosions, while the second most upvoted post of all time on the Rocket League subreddit is a beachball-and-powerboats mode.

While Dunham wouldn't be drawn on the exact content of the update, there's a sense that it could be something akin to Rocket League's previous Snow Day and Hoops modes, which adapted the game's vehicular football set-up to take on other sports' characteristics.

Speaking later about Psyonix's general approach to updates, he said:

"From our vantage point, people are playing the game because they like it how it is, so we don't want to get in the way of playing the game in the way that they've fallen in love with it - but we also don't want them to think that there aren't other options for them.

"That's why a lot of the modes that we've introduced - Snow Day, Hoops, the Mutators, and some of the things we have planned for the future - are coming in to supplement what we've done as the base game, to give people options and feed their curiosity without taking away from what keeps them coming back. [My emphasis]"

It's the start of what Dunham calls a "more aggressive" approach to updates for the game. "We have several major updates scheduled for the rest of the year," he explains. "We're working on a lot of the stuff which we're planning to do for our next update right now. Then as soon as we're done with that, we're onto our very next update right after that - and these aren't just small updates [...] We're adding new content in all of these updates, we're adding brand new features, we're adding new modes in some of them."

As it turns out, one Rocket-League's most-requested features - cross-network play between Xbox One and PS4 - is already completed, and just needs Sony's go-ahead before it can be released. Here's hoping that makes it into one of those content drops.

As you read this, we just took the stage on the final day of the Rocket League Championship Series Live Finals to officially debut a brand new mode scheduled for release next month, Rocket League Rumble!

A FREE game mode to be included with our next update in September, Rocket League Rumble is an epic battle royale-style addition that comes stacked with randomized power-ups. Whether you’re equipped with the Haymaker (which punches the ball), the Swapper (which changes your place on the field with an opponent’s), or the Tornado (you’ll just have to see it to believe it), each one of the 11 new power-ups brings an extra dimension to the classic Rocket League formula.

Like the “Hoops” and “Mutator” modes before it, Rocket League Rumble will appear in Online Playlists and Private and Exhibition matches. The complete power-up list includes:

The Boot (Kicks an opponent’s car)
Disruptor (Forces your opponent to drive uncontrollably)
Freezer (Freezes the ball in-place)
Grappling Hook (Pulls you towards the ball)
Haymaker (Punches the ball)
Magnetizer (Attracts the ball to your car)
Plunger (Grabs the ball via plunger and cord)
Power Hitter (Allows you to hit everything harder)
Spike (Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it)
Swapper (Change positions on the field with your opponent)
Tornado (Sweep up the ball and opposing cars into a giant funnel cloud)

Here's me hoping I made more of an impact in your RL games. I guess Crimson's incompetence overshadows all.

I need to start playing again. Fancy a gr game this Friday?

Played a few games of Rumble on my lunch break today - definitely more fun than I was anticipating. Kind of ashamed to admit I've already paid to open a crate :slol:

Rumble is so much fun. The spikes are a bit overpowered though, could do with some balancing.

Only got one crate so far and out of that I got a nice looking but non-animated decal.

We had the same thoughts about the spikes, hopefully they get a bit of a nerf in the near future.

My crate was a pretty rubbish decal of a chicken :(

CHANGES AND UPDATES

GENERAL
"Champions Crate III" series can now be found rarely after online matches.
The new Crate features all-new items including the "Breakout Type-S" Import Body.
The "Road Hog" and "Hotshot" Battle-Cars have received a visual upgrade.
Hotshot’s handling and hitbox have been standardized against similar cars (Dominus, Breakout).
Road Hog is unchanged aside from the visual updates.
Rumble Mode has received a few balance adjustments to the Spike power-up.
The Plunger and Haymaker power-ups can now affect a ball attached to a player by spikes. They do not detach the ball from the player, but can disrupt the ball’s trajectory and take the player with it.
Players using the Spike power-up with an attached ball are now slightly less agile than before.

ONLINE
The “Cosmic” arena in the “Rocket Labs” playlist has been updated.
Goals have increased in size to be consistent with other arenas.
Walls are now standard (vertically straight) instead of angled.
The bottom wall curves touching the floor are now standardized with other maps.
The top wall curves touching the ceiling are now standardized with other maps.
Ceiling height has been reduced.
The “Octagon” arena in the “Rocket Labs” playlist has been updated.
The “corners” between wall sections are now smoother to make it easier to push the ball around the wall curves.
The bottom wall curves touching the floor near the goals have been adjusted to better match standard map layouts.

BUG FIXES

GENERAL
Fixed an issue in Rumble mode with the Magnetizer and Spike power-ups that caused statistics for Ball Touches to be artificially increased.
Fixed an issue in Rumble mode that caused goals to be incorrectly credited after a player touched the ball with the Magnetizer or Spike power-ups.

I've been playing rumble quite a bit since launch and while I thought this at first, as long as you realise they have spikes early enough you've got a decent chance to stop them.

Shame the other modes are still a bit more quiet since its introduction though, as fun as it is. Also wish Sony would pull their finger out and allow 3 way cross play.
