Seems like the clarification in the article makes sense of everything, but undermines the clickbait potential quite horribly.

Or Houser was going for bizarre metric of 'we worked x hours per week which means the game will be great.' Genuinely impossible to know (probs a bit of both)

Personally I think BOTW offers plenty of reward for exploring

I think I'll be waiting for a price drop. Already got too much to play, without adding another epic. It'll be good for some time next year.

Anyone know when the first one is due out on PC, or is that only when they hit 120 hours a week?

I've never been interested in Cowboys so Red Dead has never done anything for me to want to play it.

It'd be interesting to hear what kind of compensation and job protection there is for working at Rockstar. Frankly I don't think it'd ever really be enough to justify having to work a 100 hour week, but I also doubt the utterly insane amounts of money being made by Rockstar products is making it back to the pockets of those below the executive level. Purely hypothetical, and an indication of my own pre-conceived biases, but given how quiet the company often is about itself and how it operates doesn't fill me with optimism about its reputation as a fair employer. The few stories that have emerged don't paint the best picture.

Wasn't there an issue with them paying wages/bonuses after GTA V release? I seem to remember there were problems paying bonuses/overtime to staff and also the voice actors came out about something similar. Can't find it on google though as it's all videos and articles about GTA Online Cash shortcuts

What if we want to discuss the hours worked at games companies other than Rockstar?

Does Nick expect us to create a new thread for each and every developer/publisher?

Making Nick an admin was the worst thing Karl ever did. :x

This.

They have to have some system whereby the developers who are putting in insane hours now get a long, long break after the game releases on top of hefty wage bonuses to justify such long hours. They also have to make sure the staff aren't being forced into doing those hours and can stop if they find doing them is more challenging than they expected or they risk burnout and staff quitting or going on long sick leave.

100 hour weeks can be done but only if well managed and only as a last resort.

My main problem is the games industry from all reports is brutal and in the US people have this odd idea that work should pretty much override everything else and if you don't like it then somehow it's your problem and you should just toughen up and get on with it.

I dated someone who worked at Rockstar and it was not a pleasant experience for them. (The work, not the dating)

Crap wage, unpaid overtime, expectations to work beyond normal hours etc. You could bring your dog into work though.

This was a few years back so things may have changed.

I would imagine they have rather high staff turnover once people realise the company is taking the piss while raking in shitloads of profit.
