I don't know how anyone can think any of the prequel movies are close to any of the other movies. That having been said I don't get the Attack of the Clones hate either, its got some properly good scenes in it, in fact snip out 20 minutes from the middle section and its not a half bad movie (compared to Phantom Menace which was bad throughout and Revenge of the Sith which had a lot of the most cringe worthy scenes from Star Wars as a whole).

The whole Anakin/Padme interaction, the dialogue, the Romance elements - by far my most detested part of the saga. That totally drags the whole movie down and I actually find it fairly uncomfortable to watch at points, it was clearly the films intent to flesh out the relationship between Obi Wan/Anakin and Anakin/Padmé but I hated the way it went about it, so forced and unbelievable.

It's a shame because I actually like the rest of the set-up of the film, the whole plot centred around Obi Wan and the clones / Jango works pretty well, the battle on Geonosis is a great spectacle and I loved the scene where Anakin loses it with the sand people (and the general connections to the original trilogy with them visiting Owen/Beru).

All three prequels have pretty massive flaws, I suppose your opinion on best/worse largely comes down to which of those flaws bother you most. I've said many times before though I think with fairly substantial editing they are better films, several of the fan edits where they reintroduce some of the deleted scenes (for example Anakin meeting Padmes family on Naboo) and remove other parts make for far better films. I would love to see an official 'special edition' prequel trilogy that edits them to fix some of their most glaring flaws.

But like I said you can easily just skip the majority of the romance section and you are left with an ok film, I don't think that's possible with the other two prequels.

Watched this last night finally. Really good, easily my favourite Star Wars movie thanks to being a self contained story.

The CGI was well done too. I personally thought that the Tarkin bits (with the exception of the well lit scenes) were the best. Leia looked worse for being in a bright white scene but that scene was short so I guess less noticeable. They really should have used the shadows to their advantage when creating those scenes.

That's a very simplistic view. Lucas CGId everything, and also the films were gooseberry fool. I don't think many people object to occasional CGI.

I think people confuse CGI with blue screen and then blame the prequels for having CGI all over the place when a lot of it was actually scaled models.

Been to see rogue one again, really enjoyed it still. My two friends I went with didn't realise Tarkin was CGI.

Still wanted them to get off scarif though.

I saw it yesterday. I thought if was good, but was a little disappointed it didn't have any proper spy stuff in it. I think I would have preferred a film with more traditional spy elements in it. Rather than the straight action movie that we got. None of the characters were that good except Orson Krennic. Final complaint I didn't like how little of a threat the empire appeared to be; they just got murdered by the hundreds. I know that's really a Star Wars thing but it really bothered me in this movie.

The action scenes totally saved the move and look of the film totally saved it.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

I didn't realise Tarkin was CGI. :fp: Tbf, I haven't seen the original trilogy in more than a decade so didn't realise it was meant to be the same person, I thought they hired a lookalike.

I'm not a star wars fan, just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It's an okay movie, Darth Vader at the end was the best bit. Deadpool is still the best movie of 2016.

Went to watch for a second viewing today. Thought it was still quite average, though far better than TFA.

The thing I noticed today that, somewhat ridiculously, irked me was the black stormtroopers at the beginning being unable to notice/track the young Jyn's footprints in the damp volcanic ash leading up to the hole where she hid herself.

Finally got round to seeing this today. That last battle was tremendous  Just perfect Star Wars. Thought the first hour or so was a bit of a mishmash, but it still had it's moment (the Death Star test firing on Jedha was great. "There's a problem on the horizon - There... is no horizon").

I still don't like how it takes place just before A New Hope but there's still so many new creations that never appear in the other films - It's not just the black Stormtroopers and the TIE Striker (I was really hoping they'd be TIE Phantoms :shifty: ), but the imperial tank on Jedha, Krennic's shuttle, the U-Wing, the AT-ACTs, even the KX Imperial Security droids (surely there should be some of them on the Death Star, or are they all destroyed when they discover that it's possible for them to be reprogrammed?), are all brand new creations for Rogue One that then aren't ever seen again. At least the Hammerhead Cruiser had been in *something* before this. It's a bit jarring, in the same way that it's odd that after Return of the Jedi everyone goes back to just using new model X-Wings and TIE Fighters in the Force Awakens.

My girlfriend asked if they were going to be doing a sequel after that ending :slol: I think we might need to blitz the original trilogy before the holiday ends.

I did like how the whole name for the film comes from the pilot's terrible imagination, too  what was the point of that scene with the stupid tentacle rapey octopus, though? He made it sound like the pilot would be a total vegetable after it, but he's shook up for a few minutes and is then totally fine.

There's a bit on the base infiltration at the end before the shooting starts where two stormtroopers are talking about a whole product line being decommissioned. I think they were talking about the droids but I missed the start of the sentence.

To show Saw's extremism. i.e. torturing people for little reason

Didn't really have any point keeping it in considering what happened next.

I see what you mean about the stuff not being in the other films but I kind of took it the same way as how we only see certain vehicles and crafts in certain films in the original trilogy (for example a-wings and b-wings don't show up until ROTJ, nor do Scout Troopers). Most of it can be explained away by it having a specific purpose I think.

Yeah I agree, I have no issue with the new vehicles etc.

On the weird tentacle creature, I can only assume that maybe that had more impact on his character in the original ending before it got reshot.

But as Return of the Jedi comes after a New Hope then it makes sense to think that they were designed/introduced after the battle of Yavin (and up until Star Wars Rebels decided to muck everything up that was the case). Putting new vehicles in prequel films gives you that kind of "oh, why didn't they just use X" plothole (like a hovertank feels a lot more practical than an AT-ST, so why weren't they in use on Endor?)

Also yeah, I assume the tentacle monster had a purpose before the edits/reshoots. Does make you wonder why they kept it when it seems like a lot of people thought the first part of the film wasn't the best with pacing, etc

I see what you're saying but then as you say, they have been introduced in Star Wars Rebels, which is set before Rogue One, I think by now most of the other types of Troopers and Vehicles have featured in that so they were in existence prior to Rogue One which probably also influences my thinking somewhat.

I'm not sure from what we saw of the hovertank it would be suitable for jungle terrain, the at-at's (I believe the first at stands for all terrain) makes sense to me.

I feel the death troopers/krennics shuttle were specific to him, perhaps an experimental unit/ship which died with him.

Tie Strikers again could have been an experimental ship being created on Scariff at the time. U-Wings were primarily troop transports and we never really saw a need for those in the original trilogy so it makes sense for them not to appear.

The only one that really bothers me are the imperial droids but I suppose it's not unrealistic to think they'd be decommissioned after Scariff.

Just got back from seeing this. Wasn't that impressed by it. Liked the characters but wish they had gone into more depth with them.

A band of brothers style tv series would really have done the characters and plot so much more justice.

In the end i couldn't have cared less about any of them dying.

A missed opportunity.

I think my main issue with the film is that main cast had zero chemistry. The world building was phenomenal but the characters let it down.

That was me. The main chick was flat and that Diego Luna guy was awful. Just a bunch of flat characters.

A lot of the first half and it's characterisation feels like it might be on a cutting room floor somewhere.

I sometimes feel I've watched a different movie to you lot. I enjoyed all the characters, maybe moreso than any of the new ones in Episode VII.
