I love how Camilla's rating is so low they can't fit her whole head on the chart

An MP is in office for 5 years (as long as Theresa doesn’t call an early election ;) ). Giving an elected Lord the equivalent of 2 or 3 terms seems fair enough, it would only be a single term, they will not be there forever (like the present system) and they will have enough time to get things done.

At the moment we have no say at all over the Lords (and you said you support the appointed system ;) ) so 10 or 15 years would already be a massive improvement.

After seeing those poll results I really want a gay marriage in the royal family now.

My worry would be a flavour of the day party like UKIP having a brief high support coinciding with a house of lords election. Then you're stuck for maybe 15 years with a party that lost all relevance after the first year.

True, but I would also favour staggering any changes. Keep the current lot of useless bastards for a limited time (to show the new people the ropes) and gradually reduce them over the 10/15 years. Each area would then be voting in different years – so the South East might elect their Lords in 2018, the North East in 2019, the South West in 2020 etc etc. Each election would add new blood and result in a cull of existing Lords.

That would avoid any chaos in the changeover and should mean that any fringe party having a brief spurt of popularity and getting Lords elected would be easily counteracted by the elections in other years.

I dont like the idea of a part of the country picking, I would rather say a quarter get done each every year or two on a country with proportionate system that way you dont have a group that are tuned to a particular region of the country rather than generally representative.

Our local council does half the council every 2 years so you there is a 4 year term but elections every other year a system like that would work and prevent an overwhelming control by a dick group especially as the whole country is voting and dick groups tend to be strong certain areas.

The idea is that the elected Lords would have long terms. Doing a quarter every year or two would mean you would then go 6-12 years or so with no Lords elections at all.

Under the idea I proposed, you would always have elections for the Lords somewhere, but it wouldn’t be so often as to get on peoples nerves. In fact, for those that don’t move regions, they would only have to bother voting for them every decade/15 years.

I kind of agree with it not being based on a geographic area though, the Lords should be there as part of the national government, not as a sort of back up MP. It’s unavoidable though or else areas with smaller populations would moan that they were drowned out by London/the South East.

The Guardian deciding to write an article on what I noticed on Monday: just how incredibly happy black and mixed race women are at this whole thing, particularly in America:

The Guardian wrote:Black American women celebrate falling barriers as Meghan Markle joins royals

Prince Harry’s engagement to the actor, from a country where women of color ‘have gone mute’ for centuries, offers hope: ‘There are no words for this joy’

But Prince Harry’s engagement this week to the American actor Meghan Markle, whose mother is black and father is white, struck a chord with a part of the population that is perhaps less typically associated with adoration of the royal family: black American women.

“For centuries, our stories, particularly for African American women, have gone mute, silenced by systems of oppression and hate,” Young, a writer and producer, told the Observer.

The royal engagement instead promotes a positive story about a woman of color who was accomplished well before she met a prince, Young said.

“In my eyes, I see a woman, one who grew up in a country that often overlooks women of color, now on a world stage proving that we have the right to be happy,” Young said. “We deserve love and new beginnings. When I see Meghan, I see a light of love.”

“I really wish my grandmother were alive to see one of Diana’s sons marry a black woman,” said the American writer Ashley Ford.

I think the Daily Mail offices would actually catch fire with apoplectic rage.

Why do they keep saying she’s black? It’s like saying Harry isn’t a filthy ginger.

He is working on not being ginger. Sure I saw he was balding at the top/back. The Royal engagement/wedding and Harry's balding are being used purely as distractions from Brexit.

Yes?

part (although not the same/or with dangerous connotations) of the same opinion that thinks that once youve got a drop of 'other' in you, youre no longer a pure Aryan. :fp:
tbh i would consider her mixed-race, but as she's half 'black' she will be considered a black person by many people.

Confirmed for Saturday, 19th May 2018.

Sky News wrote:Meghan Markle will be a "beacon" and "role model" as she joins the Royal Family, actor Idris Elba has told Sky News.

The star of Luther and The Wire, who was supported by the Prince's Trust, was speaking ahead of a dinner at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the charity that was set up by Prince Charles.

Asked whether Prince Harry's fiancée would be a good role model for young people to look up to, Elba said: "Meghan Markle, as a person, regardless of her colour, is a role model. As a strong woman marrying into our Royal Family, she's going to be a role model for any woman.

"The point is that of course our society is one of mixed heritage and it's nice to see Meghan within the Royal Family. It's great.

"And of course she's going to be a beacon and of course she's going to be someone that people look towards."

He added: "Our country is built on our monarchy, we love our monarchy and it's good to be connected."

Elba still trying to his best to curry favour with the Royals for that elusive Bond role, I see.

At least as a beacon we'll be able to set her on fire to request aid from neighboring kingdoms.
