I think the real issue here is that yet again a filthy ginger is getting ahead in life (after Chris Evans, Ed Sheeran and that scoundrel Mick Hucknall). It's outrageous, this is Great Britain for FFS sake! I don't pay my taxes to see attractive women marrying these soulless husks. Can't we round them all up in camps or something? We have to do [i]something[i/] to stop the orange menace :dread:

You're right, a black woman becoming a member of the royal family isn't noteworthy at all.

She’s not black, she is mixed race. But I agree that it is noteworthy, usually the royals refuse to breed with commoners, it is pretty newsworthy that they are now marrying people of different races.

I am not sure it would be allowed if William wasn’t popping out kids all over the place though. ;)

Do people genuinely think that "our taxes pay for the royals" is a serious argument against the Monarchy? Isn't the actual payout per citizen something like a pound a year?

It's not just that though. Beyond the 'allowance' that the Royal family receive each year from the public purse their security is paid for entirely by the Metropolitan Police and whenever they visit somewhere in the UK it's the local councils who have to fund travel/accommodation/security/everything else.

But you could have a shinny new reptile overlord every 5 years or so.

Well, no, because they're presidential republics, not parliamentary republics.

And also, Laga, you have to ask yourself the most important question - do I really care? No I don't.

If you love the Queen so much Preezy, why don't you just marry her? :x

I know I should care, but I just can’t ever bring myself to anger over still having a monarchy. They don’t cost much, they don’t really get in the way of anything and lots of people seem to love them. And they are good for a few extra bank holidays when the heir to the throne marries, the monarch dies and when a new one is crowned.

I am far more concerned with Bishops still being in the House of Lords and actually voting on laws than I am about some inbreds living in a palace and making a speech each year after the Top of the Pops Christmas special.

Exactly it doesn't hurt and it way it is kind of good for moral they seem to make people happy and their events and traditions do cheer people up so it times when not much is good they are probably very good for general well-being and stuff.

While I don’t mind them, I am certainly not taking my morals from them. The Queen is ok, but the rest of them are hardly paragons of virtue.

Your incorrect use of the word moral really raises morale on the forum.
