Simular to the last poll for collecting but do you hoard what you collect? Save those items you have no idea what they do just in case?
Do you finish a game with loads of unused items and potions?

I tend to hoard healing items mainly but if I'm playing something like Diablo III or Grim Dawn that les you share items across several characters/classes I'll keep hold of any decent rare/legendary items I find.

I used to have a huge hoarding problem in games, especially ones with no/negligible penalty for dying, Id sit on hundreds of potions promising to only use them when I need them, eventually the credits would roll and Id still have all the potions. I have kinda gotten over it, now Ill use some of the potions but Ill always tray and keep a few in reserve so Ill use the small potions but Ill kinda hoard the medium and large potions, Im an addict on the road to recovery.

This has become particularly problematic in Octopath Traveler. Your main character out of eight stays in the party the entire time: mine’s Therion, the thief. Meaning he’s put in a lot of good work nicking stuff that I just... haven’t... used.

I think I have 68 Healing Grapes and 76 Inspiriting Plums at the last count?

My current Skyrim playthrough (Switch) is probably showing my hoarding at its worst. I'm grabbing everything I can get my hands on when travelling. Flowers, mushrooms, butterflies, whatever. I don't even like doing the alchemy stuff, but my character used to be a botanist so he just can't help himself.

Yes of course. I will use items but I will never use the last remaining item of any kind.

I always hoard items in pretty much any game with an inventory system, RPG or otherwise!

You never know when you are going to need something, or when a change in circumstances, enemy types or difficulty may make an item that previously seemed pointless to hold on to an absolute essential!

Items related to upgrading stats in particular I tend to hold on to, I'm never sure if I'm going to choose the wrong upgrade and regret the decision so I like to keep a stash of things in case I need to explore other options! :D

The amount of times in that game I have to slowly walk to a village to sell bones ive collected because I can’t bare not picking them up

Crafting materials are the bane of my existence in RPGs, my inventory gets full of so much stuff that there's hardly any space for equipment.

I find it so useful when games have a secondary inventory as I just stick all the crafting items in there. Divinity: Original Sin (I and II) are great for this as you can put something like a pouch or box in your inventory, taking up a couple of squares then fill that with crafting stuff without taking too much space, I do the same with keys, books and potions .

The only mods I absolutely have to install whenever I play Skyrim are ones that increase the players carrying capacity, so I don't have to keep leaving half my stuff lying around and return to a town every 5 minutes, and mods to give shopkeepers more money, so I don't have to wait forever to offload my loot!

But that's there for the game's careful balance!

If it's a item that will offer me health or stat buffs, it's getting hoarded. Then if it's not a potion, an ether, or an antidote, it's probably getting forgotten about and never used.

It was fine for the first play through perhaps, but when you keep coming back to it things start to feel like so much of a chore!

I'm currently using a mod that keeps a decent balance - you have to craft additional pouches in order to increase your storage capacity and each one doesn't add too much so you don't feel like Dragonborn is going around Skyrim with a UPS van!

Don't worry the implied subtext was that Skyrim is terribly balanced anyway :P

True Skyrim is terribly balanced. Annoyingly some mods seem to think the answer to this is to push the dial just as far in the opposite direction which isn't really a solution!

The last few runs I've taken at Skyrim I've given myself self-imposed rules like only being able to carry one weapon at a time, only my equipped armour, and only looting jewellery and potions. You still get rich from that alone, it feels way more realistic rather than you magically carrying a whole caravan of loot, and it actually makes the game quicker and more fun as you don't have the compulsion to loot everything and everyone.

Nice, sounds like a fun approach.

I do like playing games with self imposed rules, my last Skyrim run was a "no fast travel" approach which I found to be really quite interesting as it encouraged me to explore the local areas much more rather than just jumping straight to the next key location!

I have never fast traveled in Skryim (or Oblivion or Fallout 3/NV/4) :shifty:

Fast travel just breaks my immersion too much, unless it makes sense in-game (so I will catch the cart between cities in Skyrim). BOTW was a notable exception with the liberal teleportation
